ok this might not get taken on, but, i reckon applying pig oil and sulphur powder should be taken up as an olympic sport!! i went to the yard this morning to put marys piggy stuff on and the midges were out, big time!! she isnt the best one to stand still while i do her front legs anyway coz behind her knees are still scabby. im sure she could have gone in for a dancing competition and won:rolleyes::D trying to dodge the front legs shooting up so i didnt get my hand squashed between a stomach and a hoof!! having the oil kicked all over the place so i ended up yellow too :o then having to dodge the strong thrashing tail coz of the midges and getting lashed in the face:mad: but, i did it, she has oily, yellow legs and is sorted for a few more weeks :D

How often do you have to do it? I am very tempted after reading everyones success stories.

Yellow is a very attractive colour:D

Lucy used to be like that about it -- I almost got killed with each leg  ... She LOVES it now ... It must feel very soothing!

Been there, done that, been splattered too!!! :p

Soooo worth it though - lush feathers in great condition!!! :)

I'm lucky as Joy loves it :D

She stands there and actually rests her foot on her toes without being asked so that I get get to massage it in really well at the back :p

I average about every 6 weeks or so when the mud allows

I do my horses about ever 6 - 8 weeks, he's ok on the front feet but after about 5 mins on the back legs he starts stamping cos he's impatient - but I hasten to add he's never ever kicked or threatened me ! ;)

It's wonder stuff, even the pig oil on it's own works ok.

Reminds me I've run out of sulphur and must order some more. :o

i usually time mine with every shoeing, around every 6 weeks. i highly reccomend it to everyone. Marys back heels have cleared completely, its just behind her knees now im trying to clear but are more stubborn:rolleyes: i just have to dodge the flying front feet:D

Its really tricky to get on, especially when the horse doesn't stand still. We had alot of problems with Voltan when we started to apply it and most of it ended up on my trackies.... and the stains haven't came off!
coyote I'm blaming you :p

sophie just look up some of the threads on here about it. I use it for Marys legs coz they were sore and losing feathers.COYOTE is the resident expert on here and we all bow to her for telling us about this stuff :D (even though it nearly gets us stood on!!:p) here are a couple of pics, before and about 12 weeks after......12 weeks = 2 applications :D

I'm now using the pig oil and sulphur but mine isn't that yellow, does anyone know the reckomended ratio that should be used? I brought mine pre mixed but thinking that it may not have enough sulphur in it? x

when i asked Coyote all about it, she told me 2 cupped handfuls of sulphur powder and 1 litre of oil mixed. Its abit hit and miss how much i use though :o:D

Ok, thank you I def think I'm using to little sulphur I brought a 5 litre bottle of pig oil but it didn't say the ratio of sulphur that was in it. I think I might invest in some sulphur and add to the existing oil that I have. Is it supposed to be more liquid or more paste like? x
