Was wondering in peoples experience how one faired against the other?

I'm still looking into feeding options and considering whether or not to replace C's multi vitamin with Naf Slimline or something like Anti Lam.

I previously used Baileys lo cal but didn't really see a difference in him and also thought he put some weight on although he was only on it for a very short space of time.

Any views welcome!:)

I've been feeding Top Spec Antilamto Jim since the beginning of June & I'm really really impressed with it. He's lost some weight, his coat looks good, I think I can see an improvement in the hoof growing down & he's stayed calm on it when he's been brought back into work. This is particularly good when you realise that he's normally very sharp when he's had time off, has very poor feet but most hoof supplements seem to upset his stomach & I have to be very careful what I feed him because anything with cereals makes his cribbing worse &/or makes him hyper. I tried him on Lo Cal years ago & although he loved it he was verging on unmanageable.

I've just tried Lo Cal for Little Un because it's cheaper than Antilam & he doesn't have any known problems apart from being a little stouter than I'd like & a still growing 4yo on poor grazing supplemented by hay so I feel he needs the vits & mins (he was leaving his powdered supplement fed in chaff). Interestingly after about 2 weeks on it he's showing definate signs of an attitude problem - thinks he's God  - & today I decided to take him off it to see if that made a difference. He'll be getting chaff for a few days then put on Antilam.

I use Topspec anti lam, started with it last year when my mare had lami symptoms. She looks well on it, her feet have definitely improved and she iswell behaved, though she was never been more than a bit bargey at times.
I did stop using it for a little while when I ran out, thinking it wasnt doing anything but I could see a difference so I went and got some more.

is the anti lam a balancer or vit/min supplement though? If so, how much of it do you have to feed?

Ive been using bailys low cal, but id be interested in this....

It's a multi supplement which basically gives them everything they need. I told their rep what C was currently on - multi vit, seaweed and magox and apparently this can replace all of these things.

They recommend you feed it with HiFi good doer or Hifi light - basically it's vits and minerals in a pellet form with very little calories but lots of fibre.

You feed 100g per 100kg body weight per day. I got a sample tub yesterday which contains 1/2 a days worth for C. I'm going to see if he likes it an possibly use this in future as he's more likely to eat the pellets than the powdered supplement.

From the brochure I have it contains:
Biotin,
Methionine,
cysteine,
lysine,
calcium,
zinc,
copper,
iodine,
vit A,
yeast,
mannan oligosaccharides (removes bad bacteria from the gut),
Vit C,
Vit E

What I quite like the sound of is that it's got high levels of biotin and when he gets his shoes off C's going to need something to keep his feet tough.

BlueWicked this is the link to Antilam on the Top Spec website www.topspec.com/basket/horses/supplement/2 if that helps. It looks like Lo Cal & seems very palatable. I've been feeding it since the early June & have just started my third sack, not bad considering I'm feeding a horse whose ideal weight is around 650kg - for less than £10 a month I'm getting feed, vit & min supplement & a hoof supplement!

There's not a great deal of difference between the lo cal and anti lam. The anti lam does have higher fibre and lower starch and proten. It also contains higher levels of the vits and mins and more vits and mins and added biotin which the lo cal does not have.

The balancer versus the vits and mins is really just preference- a lot of people with very good doers opt for the vits and mins as there is nothing else to make them put weight on!

I have just started my cob on the Topspec comprehensive feed balancer and it seems to suit him. Before he was on stack loads of cereals to maintain weight and energy and it was whizzing him up a bit- now he is looking much better and he seems to have enough energy without the excitability! I personally quite like balancers as everything is all there if you are feeding at recommended levels and so i don't need to worry about anything else and overall it has worked out a bit cheaper for me as he is being fed less!

I was really chuffed with A on Antilam and my little ponies are still on it BUT I have had a bit of behavioural issues with him recently and have these have eased off since I took him off it. I'm not quite sure if it was the Antilam but this happened once before with him with blue chip. I'm a bit scunnered because he was looking great and I'm not quite sure where to go about this now but unfortunately he stopped playing up as soon as he came off it so I suspect thats what has caused it.

I'm going to get him a bit less "well" if you know what I mean then I'll maybe try again with it and see if I can assess the situation.

Mine has had serious lami a couple of times. Started TopSpec Antilam last year. He recovered really well, to being ridden again. Took him off it for 6 weeks because I thought he's better now, save it for spring. In the same 6 weeks, Farrier went beserk and said lami was coming back and to put him back on it. Blood in hoof cuttings again.

He has not been off it since !!!!!!

Tried various products before this, but not lo-cal so cant comment on that.
