Balance standing/moving

Does anyone else have this?

I feel insecure and have balance problems when my pony is standing still, but when we are moving I am perfectly alright, and go with the movement, even the bucks, spins, etc.

Is is my conditions or medication, or in my head. I have had him 7 years and have always had the problem.

Come to think of it, even standing on the ground I feel better moving that being still, it makes me heady (slightly drunk feeling) but not that bad.

what medication are you on? it could well be the cause of your balance problems.Failing that do you have any problems with your ears as again this can cause the symptoms you are feeling.

I am on 8 cocodamol, two rheumatard 75mg, 9 acupan, 5 amitrypteline, 1 omeprazol. I've been on them about 12 years so I am sure I am used to them.

But it is just funny that it goes away when walking or riding. Or it could be that I just dont notice it then

one of the side effects of amitriptylene is dizziness so as you are on quite alot of it that may well be the cause of your lack of balance. It is probably worth mentioning it to your doctor next time you go along especially if the lack of balance only started occurring after the dose of amitriptylene was increased. As for the other meds I haven't come across lack of balance as a side effect before but I am not medically qualified.I only know about medications which are used in the mental health industry as that is my job.

I had 3 amitrypleline to sleep as they wont give me sleeping pills. I went to doc about my neck a month ago, the muscles were all jammed up and I was in a lot of pain as two are growing together from oesteoarthritus and 3 have been broken. She just upped the amitryp to 5. I should have got diazipam to release the spasms.

In s.a. I got cortisone jabs into my spine by gp, but here I cant have that. I had a broken pelvis, 4 lower back vertebrae broken and 2 ruptured discs.

The ME and fibromyalgia and oesteoarthritus and hypermobile joints gives me very bad muscular cramps and all you get is paracetomol. My cruciate ligaments have snapped in one leg, and arthritus in the knees too.

I had my car crash at 21 and have to wait till I am 70 odd, to get anything they deem addictive. I was on only 3 pills in s.a. look at what I have now. Where is the logic in giving anti-depressants and paracetomol for absolutely anything. If I went in with flu they would up the antidepressants.

So frustrating, sorry for the rant, but that is why I am on 5 of them. It is a matter of go away and shut up, we cant give you anything, just live with it.

I can always try another doc, but I have been through 3 at this practice and they all have the same attitude, you might sue us if we give you anything stronger. Even the CBT woman wrote to the doc on my behalf and that didnt help.

I tried gabepentin last year and was so dizzy I couldnt walk without walking sticks, so I sold the car because I couldnt drive for 3 months. I was getting dizzy just sitting in the drivers seat before I even switched on.

The 8 codien per day make me tired and I get brainfog and it affects my eye site towards the end of the day. That is when I ride on a sat or sun, in the afternoon, because I am too stiff in the morning without the meds. So when the meds start working and I feel better, then the dizziness and tiredness comes instead.:confused:

Everytime I try and get off the stuff, and go back to doc feeling worse, they just tell me to up the doses again.

has your gp ever referred you to a specialist.Alot of hospitals have a pain management clinic where they would help sort out your medication and find you the right dosage and type of medication which will help get to the bottom of your pain. I can't see why they wouldn't give you the cortisone injection unless this is maybe a regional thing, as it is freely available in this part of the country.

Went to the pain clinic, they said to keep a diary of my activities and pils for a mnth. Went back and they said do it again, third time same, so I stopped going. They said at initial visit, I would see doc for meds, physio, etc, but never did any of that. They did one session of acupuncture. I think they were just too busy, appointments were never longer than 10mins like a gp.

Back to my question, the minute pony starts moving I am alright, but everytime we stop, at intersections etc, or for monsters, I get dizzy again. I am breathing. Do you think it could be the codiene because I do have low blood pressure and that seems to make it worse? I nearly fall off at intersections and OK when we start walking again.

Problem is I go on my own now so I dont really feel safe. After trotting up a hill and then slowing down again it will happen.

sounds like its the low blood pressure , as soon as you move it brings up the pressure, stop and it goes down hence the dizziness lack of balance, i would really go back to the doc and kick up a stink, it could be very dangerous

colleen&val - you may be right there, it happens after sittingdown and getting up quick, or standing after a hot bath, but I am used to that. Just couldnt figure out how speed of pony figured into this. He is doing the work, not me.

I didnt realise my muscles and breathing and passive activity when trotting probably does make my blood go round faster. You dont really think you are using your body when riding unless you are eventing, jumping etc, but I suppose we must be in some way.

I am only doing walk and trot for no more that 15-20 mins, not galloping about like when I was younger. Maybe that is all my system can take. It is like getting heady if I try to cycle too fast. Usually go 4mph which is horse walk speed.

definitely sounds like blood pressure to me as well. However that still is a side effect of the amitriptyline. I would go back to your gp or a different surgery and ask for another opinion or change of medication.
