I know Bates is the high end of the Wintec line. I like the idea of the CAIR panels and the gullet change system. But do the Bates saddles have the banana shaped tree that doesn't fit anything like the Wintecs do?

I'm not sure about the banana shape thing. I like them though. I rode Woody in a nice Bates saddle and if I can find a second hand Bates saddle that fits Cheeky I will buy it for the little one day events I plan to do with him next year. Edit to add that I'm not a fan of CAIR, but like the Bates saddles with flocking.

I don't think they can - I had a Bates Caprilli GP that with a change of gullet and sometimes a spot of flocking (they can be flocked beside the air) it fitted a 16hh MW, a 15.2hh cob and a 16.3hh HW. I now have a Bates Caprilli VSD for my 16.3hh HW as it allows greater movement of her shoulder and I only do flatwork anyway :)

Excellent saddles in my experience :)

I like the Bates' saddles; I rode in one awhile ago and quite liked it, so I'm looking at the Bates' Caprilli Dressage for Coquette. But she's a flat backed Quarter Horse, and we all know that Wintecs don't fit Quarter Horses. So if Bates and Wintecs have the same shaped trees, I may as well stop looking now.

i don't think they are banana shaped. my RI has one on her lusitano and he hasn't got a curved back. it fits really nice on him :) (comfy too ;))

I'm not sure about the banana shape, but I've heard many people not liking the Cair, as it feel like they are riding on top of a balloon and do not have the same feeling for the horse that they do with wool. Of course, this is just what I have heard and have not tried one myself.

I have three Bates saddles, two with Cair. Sparky's is an old old old Bates saddle, while Tally has a Bates Caprilli dressage and Bates Caprilli flatseat, both of which have cair

Tally is quite wide and flat, he's a Welsh X, and his saddles fit him beautifully. I don't think they have the same shaped trees.

I've got three all with cair and I love them. My TB, irish cob and connie wear them so they definately fit different types well.

Bates Tree

Hi i know this was some time ago but to let you know the trees are the same for both the bates and the wintec you buy the same product. hope this helps.:)

I wouldn't have a clue about the tree but my saddler said that he prefers flocking to cair as the cair compresses (it did with both the saddles that he saw to at my yard) and is less easy to adjust the your horse than the flocking is.

Mind you this was coming from the sadler that incorrectly told me he could make my Wintec fit in the first place (shame asI loved it but horsey didn't) so I don't know how much faith I'd place in that assertion
