Has anyone got BHS Gold Membership and used the public liability and personal accident cover instead of having it on their insurance?
Is it worth the money?

Yes, I have BHS gold cover because I ride lots of different horses and so Rosco only has vets cover on his insurance.

If I only ever rode my horses then I don't know if I'd do it this way - I remember when I took the public and personal liability off Max's insurance cover it only saved me £26 a year...

I had BHS gold membership for years but then I fell out with them :) basically because I couldn't get the information I needed from them, and had a nightmare changing my address. I haven't had it since. Keep meaning to renew it but part of me has a bit of resentment towards them. I just use my normal insurers now who are very helpful.

I have it but haven't used it for the public liability insurance.

It is good to have in case you want to ride other people's horses and I think it is good to support them. When we get our Ashdown Forest permits it is way easier having it.

I have used the legal helpline and they were very helpful. I have had my money's worth just on the legal side.

I am a gold member but have never used the public liability.

I kept hearing it was excellent value and cover so I went with it.

I had it on petplan last year but decided to switch and saved myself a few pounds by getting it with the BHS. Also got a lot more - £10million. Haven't used it but am conscious that I deal with friends horses so although I don't ride them just now, the time may come.
A little tip though - from what I can tell it renews by the month so wait till the first of the month to renew. I made the mistake of buying on something like 23rd March, it runs out at the end of February next year. Grrrr.

I've just renewed the Gold membership for the 2nd year. It works for me as I'm not a horse owner. I got it first when a kind local lass let me take her Fell out hacking. It gave her peace of mind to know that I had cover if something happened to me. Oddly enough I didn't get it for my personal cover - it was more to offer the loaner reassurance that there was cover for third party incidents and her animal is something should happen. (In the village centre a horse once went up and came down on a car bonnet - no harm done to rider or horse, but it took a hell of a lot of sorting out.)

I've not had to make a claim, and there may well be better ways of handling it if you have your own horse/pony. I just feel I should take some responsibility if I ride someone else's horse, particularly if there is no contract and no money changes hands.

we have it, and it is good on the public liability as it covers all your horses, no matter how many, so i have taken pl off their other insurance.

i use the legal helpline as well.

Having checked out the price of the gold membership -v- the cost of public liability/personal accident the £56 odd was a better deal and cheaper than having it included in the insurance policies that I was quoted on (eventually went with NFU and the woman who dealt with the quote said they had a lot of people taking out the BHS gold membership as it was such a good deal). Checked my figures with the OH (an accountant) he agreed with my thinking.

Hope I never have to use either the insurance or the gold membership cover - but good to know it's there. And, before I forget - thank you NR people for giving me da knowledge!

Oh, and just 'cos I haven't said it today....:bounce::bounce::bounce:
