big horrid black fly type bugs?

I know exactly what you mean! I did the Windsor Sponsored ride a couple of weeks ago and as we went along a couple of the paths there were absolute swarms of them, horrible little buggers. Mimi was getting really stressed by them, she was really flinging her head about, they kept landing on her. That was the first time I'd ever seen them, I thought they were something you only found in the Windsor Park.

Then last week I noticed a load out hacking at the farm, only in one area near some woods, but they were definitely the same.

I don't know what their official name is, but they look to me like a cross between dragonflies and hornets :eek:.

They are evil

I must get so much more protein in summer, I seem to eat flies for fun!!lol. They are awful, as somebody else on here points out, you have to walk around with your mouth shut (just in case the blighters get in!).
I've put our pair out in their fly rugs for the first time today, its hot and sticky and I get the feeling that the dreaded horse fly will be around soon.......
