Are some of you know we have really small fields that are not rested at all, but I have been lucky enough to be given a friends field for 1 month to allow me to rest but it has not been poo picked for months and it had 3 to 4 horses in. :frown:

So I moved the boys across and have been working in clearing the poo. So far I have removed 12 barrows yesterday and 4 the day before. I have blisters all over my hands and I still have about 7 more to do I guess.

I am very grateful for the loan of the field but I just don't understand why they are not poo picked at least once a week.

Mods please leave here.

That is a lot of poo! Is there any grass surronded by the poo?

Our smaller fields are all poo picked on a daily basis, but the bigger ones are not. My horse is out in a 20 acre field with only 5 horses (and none are out 24/7) so this field just gets harrowed every so often

I don't understand people who don't poo pick regularly either, ok if your horse is in a mixed herd with acres of land harrowing is the best option but for those with limited paddock size how hard can it be.
I remember the last yard when I moved Belle on to a different paddock, the lady who had it before me never poo picked and I ended up taking 43 (yes really), barrow loads of poo off it! I had a few blisters too.
One of my current fellow liveries asked me yesterday why I poo pick daily and didn't it take ages, it honestly takes no time at all if it's done everyday and only becomes a chore if you leave it to accumulate.

Oh dear! Your poor hands. Hmm. Not a lot you can do now about the blisters - prevention is better than cure and all that....
I think there's a happy medium when it comes to poo picking practice. Maybe the previous occupants were going to harrow it all in or something? If the shelter is mobile?

Last year my pony was out with 11 other gelding and only myself and another lady poo picked. She would do 4 barrows 1/2 days a week. I did 3/4 barrows a day almost every single day and still never managed to quite keep it clear but got pretty damn close!

Then the geldings all moved into a field which had 5 other horses in for 6months and had never been poo picked. With some help from my mum and bf we cleared more than 30 barrows inthe space of a few days.

Sometimes I get so frustrated that no one else does it. But writing notes, asking the yard owner to do something and even crying gets me nowhere so I just do it on my own.

It annoys me sooo much!

Also our field is not big enough for the amount of geldings in it so gets disgusting really quick!
