Anyone have Bucas turnout rugs?

What are they like?
How do they fit?
how do they wear?

I have a Bucas stable rug in a 6ft3 I think that fits my 5ft9/6ft horse, are the turnouts the same on size?

I've got a Bucas combo stable rug.....probably the worst fitting rug I have ever bought. It was bought as a 6ft 9in but was too tight for an Irish Draught across the front (not an excessivly sized horse and all other makes of rug fit her). I now use it as a spare on a 6ft 3in sized warmblood and it just fits across the chest, but is a big elsewhere.

Well made but the sizing is weird...no adjustment either across the chest.

So they come out small then?

I am looking for a rug for my 6ft sized welsh cob. At the moment she is in a 6ft taka with an adjusted front but it is still huge on her, it shall go back on Murf as he is in Ambers 6ft3 full neck and showing his bum, the taka is a very strange sized rug!

Does your horse fit in horseware rugs? My Bucas stable seems similar in the chest to my youngsters rhino rug.

Have had a buccas cooler for 5 years now, and wouldn't be without it.

Fits B really well, doesn't rub her even when clipped out, shavings don't stick to it, and it's a highly effective cooler - to the point that I've found her with condensation on the outisde of the rug, toasty warm and dry next to her skin.

I agree in that they may not be very popular, I had difficulty sourcing a replacement, and had to wait for next shipment for my order to be filled; I had only found a handful of places in my area that carried any buccas stock. Haven't tried their turnouts as I'd bought those before I bought the cooler, when my current lot need replacing then I 'll look at buccas.

edit to add she's a connemara, 14.2 and typical build for the breed, wears a 6'

I had a Bucas Power turnout, cost a fortune, the 'antibacterial lining' rubbed his mane out and collect every spare hair going, it looked lovely brand new - in the bag, rubbish fit though on a big warmblood, and I sold it for half the price I paid for it, the only bucas thing I like is their travel boots!

Did you find the fit around the neck similar to a horsewear rug?

I want a half neck but weatherbeeta don't seem to do them anymore, next choice is a standard neck rambo or rhino, but they are fairly expensive.

I really need to try my bucas stable on her but she lives out and its not fair to take her rug off in this weather.

I found the neck a bit 'strangley' but the rambo ones do that to him too, he does have a big stallion neck as he was left til he was six before being cut, but I do find amigo necks fit best and premier equine rugs are perfect for him, nice and long too!

I've heard they're very good for TB's and slight horses hence why their so tight across the chest on more substantial breeds. I'm getting a Sunshower for Lilly in the summer but she's an Arab yearling so if it doesn't fit her I'll be very surprised and annoyed!.

Thanks everyone:)

I will be digging out my bucas stable tonight to try on her, I had to go up a size with that so will see if it fits:)

Sorry, just caught up with this.

I have a bucas Irish Turnout that I've had for about 5 years now and value for money found it great. Still going - still waterproof and great fit round the neck. In fact it gave me the idea of taking tucks around the neckline of rugs that dont fit as snuggly. That said I have a narrow chested arab who is a small 5'9 and this fits perfectly. I also have the Power Cooler and agree its great.

Thanks Birat:)

My bucas stable is Shays rug, it fits him really nicely and he is a similar sort of shape to your boy, Ceryn is a little wider though, I hope it will fit as they look like nice rugs.

She has the taka on at the moment and its horrible.

For anyone else interested in these rugs, I took some pics of my 6ft3 bucas irish stable rug on my 14hh welsh cob who takes a 6ft rug

Thanks, yea it fits her quite nicely.

I bought this one in a tack shop sale, I have 7 horses so thought it was bound to fit one of them! Also fits my 14.3 welsh x arab nicely.

Sorry, I haven't read all the replies, but I have two Bucas Turnout rugs and one cooler/underrug.
My warmblood mare measures 6 ft and I have three 6ft rugs that fit her perfectly. She is well muscled with a well developed shoulder - not a weedy narrow thing.
I have had my horse and my rugs for ten years - one has a small repair. She rolls like mad and used to charge around a lot when she was younger.
The rugs are great, but moulted hair is hard to remove from the fleece lining.
The leg straps have had to be replaced a couple of times - somehow she has lost/broken them.
I have never had them reproofed, but get them cleaned a couple of times a year - she wears them all winter, day and night.
I will buy Bucas rugs again when these finally wear out.
