Cheeky weekend away

We headed to the coast on Friday for a few days. Monkey loaded and travelled the hour and a half like a dream, the furthest I’ve taken him before was 30 minutes, so I was really chuffed with him.

And L&L were about 3 hours behind us, and he settled into his paddock alone really well, met the neighbours and right down to grazing!

And when L&L arrived they were happy to see each other

Unfortunately it started raining, and as it was only an hour before dark we opted not to ride.

We were all for our plan of getting to the beach at dawn, so got up in the dark and as we went to get them in, realised we might be nuts, the wind had been terrible all night and wasn’t set to drop, so we pivoted and went back to bed

At a more reasonable hour we headed out for a farm ride! Monkey started out very anxious, even with me on foot he was very pushy and rushing to chase L&L, not ideal.

Not happy he had to wait! He couldn’t stand still, ants in his pants.

The trees over this track were scary in the wind! But as soon as we turned that corner, towards the trailer, Monkey relaxed

A field full of pigs, they didn’t get a look, but the bricks that had fallen from the wall on the left, he was suspicious they may be of the horse eating variety

It was so windy, my hands kept getting caught in his mane, it was wild!

In the afternoon we went to scope out another beach we might ride at, the wind didn’t feel awful even a mile inland, but on the beach it was truly awful, we managed about a 20 minute walk before we’d had more than enough. It was miserable, we were completely sand blasted when we turned around to go back.

This morning was pretty (still windy but less)


They were wired from the start so we set off on foot, and when Monkey saw some walkers in the distance he went on full alert, made for a pretty picture though!

I got on just after the walkers and there was a lovely grass airstrip begging to be cantered up, but Monkey was barely holding it together in walk, I just had to sit very VERY still and not breathe to sharply! No pictures of that bit

Again as soon as we turned back towards the trailer he settled to the point I was having to kick to keep him going

We saw red kites, 8 over 1 field! And buzzards, deer and so many small birds, it’s a lovely conservation area.

Glad to be home! Half an hour on the winter paddock until they settled, otherwise Monkey is all over excited and Jess kicks him for it!

What an adventure for your weekend! Fab pics. Looked lovely scenery. The wind can be a pain sometimes can't it. You do great taking him to different places, it must feel like a good achievement too. And a nice change for you too of course.
