Ouch ouch ouch. Counting multiple bruises to legs and hands tonight. You know how you can bend over backwards to help some people, but they can be so ungrateful no matter what you do. We'll sheep are the bloody same. Miss Ffffffin Prolapse has spent the last fortnight running round the pen acting like she's never seen me before, so frightened. Whilst mother hood mellows some sheep others turn into raging mad b!!!!!tches. Yes there was much fffin and blindin. She was as bad as a ram. Protective of her babies for sure. Frightened of hitting me she was not.
6 lambed, 11 lambs so far. Got caught out today. Everybody went out. One lambed out in the field 2 days early. She would have been coming in tomorrow night.
One that was due last Tuesday still hasn't lambed. She has an udder but nothing to big currently. No other date for her so really is guess when im due. In fact there's 3 now im going to be guessing. I've never been in this predicament. All thanks to the crows eating the raddle crayons.

I remember you mentioned the crows eating the raddle crayons a while ago. Fancy them doing that. And annoying for you.
Took a fall tonight, wish I could say it was from falling off the horse. Unfortunately not, it was courtesy of an over enthusiastic Quin trying to get the sheep in. I tell him to walk up so he walks up, rushes in at the ewe with her lambs. She turns around to try and whack him, he dodges out of the way runs straight into my legs, sending me flying up in the air. He didn't actually run out of the way quick enough and I ended up landing on top of him. Scrabbling to get to my feet he's also trying to scrabble out from underneath me. I now have a nice bruised elbow and I'm telling myself he was only trying to help.
Black elbow this morning. Thought I'd got away with the hip when I stood up last night. This morning though my bad hip is complaining with every step. Rubbed in a load of magnesium gel.
So annoying as my hip had improved recently and I'd gone back to doing my longer walks.

So annoying isn't it. Falling off when you're having a nice ride is one thing, but falling or getting pushed is another! I hope you heal soon and your hip is okay. I quite like Algesal though its prescription only (I think) and I'm still using some that my friend gave me (I know you shouldn't give meds away lol).
Quin clearly seeks forgiveness, I'm putting the beds down tonight, suddenly realized he's disappeared then I hear a bleat in the yard. He's only gone and got all the sheep up on his own without any assistance, without me telling him too. Only trouble is I don't need them in for another hour, just typical.
Haven't put anything on here as I've posted elsewhere.
I have been caught out yet again. Last ewe lambed yesterday, but I only found her this morning. As i couldnt decide if she was in lamb i bunged her over with Cadmus and the 2 shearling on Monday. I didnt want her going down to the neighbours with the public footpath in case they got chased. Lamb was almost dry so that was born yesterday afternoon/evening id say. Only a single so its lowered the lambing percentage.
But that's everyone lambed. Total of 20 lambs from 11 lambing.
Turned my attention to the garden this weekend. Was given a few courgettes and tomatoes. I've also put some beans in pots to germinate.
Had to get the hedge cutter out to trim ivy and bramble off the dry stone wall, as im catching it all when mowing lawns. Did nothing last year and over winter. Garden now needs a heavy cut back. Hedge trimmer is too heavy for me really and I'm now suffering with a very swollen arm for my efforts. The same one I suspect I cracked last year. Probably still weak from restricted use. Was iceing all yesterday evening. Swelling looked better this morning but a bit of work and it's already swollen again.
I'm so frustrated as theres so much I need to do and I just seem to keep injuring myself when ever i attempt jobs and then have to rest for weeks. I have alot of personal baggage im dealing with to currently which is not helping. Im now very much at the point that its time to accept defeat and sell up.

It can be frustrating not being able to do the things you need to do. On a much smaller scale here, Mr T and me have to do the heavy lugging jobs between us and it takes longer than it used to. I don't have to do much wrong before my back caves in.
If you do decide to move it could be a really good new start couldn't it. Perhaps you would move somewhere near a yard? And there would be more riding possibilities? It sounds like you have a lot to think about at the moment anyway. Lots of thoughtful vibes coming to you - life decisions can be difficult. xxx
Well a really hot Bank Holiday. Managed to stay out the sun for 2 days. Then stupidly got sunburnt yesterday.
Went for a hack on the neighbours horse this evening once it cooled off. Haven't ridden for a couple of months. Felt good to be back in the saddle.

Hooray. Finally I have finished ragworting. Its taken me 8 days. That's has been my morning and evening job this week. When I started it looked like a never ending job. The Billies paddock which is about 2 acres. One acre was covered. The other acre only sparse bits. Last year I seem to recall about 4 bags. The year before was endless bags. This year was about 8 bags. Plus there was an acre covered that had blown over a few years ago from the the billies paddock when none got pulled. That I broke the back of a the beginning of the week. Ive covered the other 18 odd acres since Friday.
There's lots of rosettes still in the Billies paddock but trying to dig them out is impossible as it's very stoney ground and you end up breaking the plants and bits of root get left. So I only dig up the plants that are in flower.
I'm sure there will be ragwort ive missed that isn't ready waving its yellow blooms at me. So I will do another sweep next weekend. But for now 20 something bags are piled high awaiting a bonfire and I can relax.

It sounds hard work. Do you ever consider spraying? Or is that not an option because of livestock?
Spraying would be expensive and very time consuming. I have gone round and sprayed the fence lines this year. Although the roundup hasn't worked with the brambles. It's killed off the grass so it should help put the juice back up a bit.
We have lots of wild flowers. Masses of orchids etc in the fields so dot spraying 20 acres would be a nightmare. I am tempted to spray the billies paddock. There's not as many flowers in there but there's also no top soil so grass is sparse. Which is why ragwort thrives.

Someone on here once recommended I try and agronomist? to spray our fields at our old house. Not sure how cost effective it is but I know they hold a spray licence whereas its not something I could get my hands on. Its nice that you can save the wild flowers. But it definitely sounds like hard labour for you.
Weaned lambs from mums today. Neighbours field they were in still had grass unlike last years long dry spell. But it was not doing anything for the lambs. They looked skinny. Plus there's one section of fence that's a bit poor and needs refencing. With no goodness in the grass lambs were sticking there heads through the wire and also jumping over it. Neighbour has a Yew hedge the other side of the wire so once they've munched the strip of grass between im sure they will start on the hedge. One lamb did look a bit off for a few days so I wondered if he had already had a nibble. Not sure how much Yew they need to consume to cause death but I didn't want to risk it. Ewes have gone back down to field to get rid of udders. They'll be plenty of grass remaining in the field for them. They won't bother I don't think going over. Ewe lambs have gone in the neighbours field were we cut hay and ram lambs and Cadmus are at home.
Combed the 6 acre field for ragwort again yesterday. Was right new plants in flower which weren't out last week. Walking across it today spotted another 2 plants. Hopefully slightly cooler this week so I will do walks morning or evening each day in the other fields.
