I am doing a little market research on us nervous nellies, I would be really greatful if you could answer some questions:wink: Virtual Latte's and muffins for all that do, or g&t for the hardcore!

If you have a confidence issue, would you go on a 2/3 day course to boost your confidence?

If No, please state why

If yes, would you go further and spend a few nights away from home? Or would it have to be travel every day?

If you were to ride twice a day and have other sessions, how much would you expect to pay?

What would be your goal for the 3 days?

What would put you off?

What would make you really interested?

Any thoughts on anything else related.....

Thanks everyone:wink:

Would love to - but money would dictate my ability to attend unfortunately - I'm skint just now:cry:

As I say, money would be only reason why not.

I couldn't and wouldn't want to spend time away as my horse is on DIY livery and I prefer not to rely on others when he's my responsibility. Would prefer to travel every day.

Oh, no idea, sorry.
What would be your goal for the 3 days?
To come away with some strategies for coping with confidence destroying situations, a bit of a confidence boost in general, and some contacts to discuss things when it gets tough.
What would put you off?
Money I guess sadly, distance to travel but then thats cause I'm in Scotland, and having to bring my own horse - although I would want to do that, its just he doesn't travel well.
What would make you really interested?
Speaking to the instructor and feeling motivated by the taster they give of what would be involved - the promotional material and the promise, not of building confidence, but of akcnowledging that its workable to overcome (sorry that doesn't make much sense does it)

yes

couldnt do it if too far from home or too expensive

would like to go away from home but would have to be affordable and be on a weekend too so hubby could have the kids.

If you were to ride twice a day and have other sessions, how much would you expect to pay?
Not sure but if it was more than say £50 per day i couldnt afford it.

What would be your goal for the 3 days?
To feel i could cope with situations i usually struggle with and to have a contact for advice if you continue to struggle
What would put you off?
anything that made it sound like you had to be a really fab rider to attend!!

What would make you really interested?
If it was affordable and offered things that interest me. Like id love to try the simulator thingy, could you get one that bucks rears and spins to see if you can stay on?!!:giggle:

Yes - I have done so

I would prefer it to be local, the course I attended was in the Staffordshire Moorlands just outside of Stoke so not too far to travel. I have looked at others that are further afield, but the costs start to add up, such as B&B, travel and meals. Also if a weekend would have to pay extra livery costs and a grumpy OH to make it up to!!!!

Depends on what's on offer.

What would be your goal for the 3 days?
As others have said taking away strategies that will help you in those situations you find scary.Having a tool box of stuff to help you cope.

What would put you off?
Large groups of people. I prefer something a bit smaller as it allows the trainer time to concentrate on individuals, and also it can be quite nice for others to share their experiences and how they coped.

What would make you really interested?
The strategies and theory being used on the course, take away materials and support by email after the course.

I'd be very interested in attending such a course but would prefer to be able to travel each day.
Not sure how much I would expect to pay to be honest and it would depend on what the course involved and offered. But confidence has been a big hindrance to me this year so I'd try and meet the costs if I thought it would genuinely help.
My goal would be to feel confident!
What would put me off? Probably groups that were too big or anything that made you feel a bit rubbish! Also my horse won't load and I don't have transport for him anyway so, if the course involved riding, well schooled and placid horses would need to be provided!!!
I'd be interested in anything where I thought I really would feel different afterwards - I've tried hypnotherapy before and it just didn't work. Perhaps I need a miracle worker to be present!

It all depends on the terms and conditions of the course. I live near to where Mary Wanless runs her confidence courses, but they are too expensive for me to justify going to one. Plus they only offer 2 hours riding per day which I don't think is that much. The downtime is spent watching lessons or other people and I just don't think that this represents value for money. While I understand it isn't all about the riding, I want to have a busy course which address my issues, rather than riding quiet horses and watching other peoples lessons.

See above, for me to go it would have to be a jam packed programme from 9am to 5pm which deals with the real reasons why people lose their confidence and give you practical help to overcome this.

If yes, would you go further and spend a few nights away from home? Or would it have to be travel every day?

I have got 2 little kids so I would need to come home every night. I may be able to manage one night away but not more than that.

If you were to ride twice a day and have other sessions, how much would you expect to pay?

I ride at a top riding centre and pay £32 for a group lesson. I wouldn't expect to pay more than that per hours riding. I would pay additional fees for lectures but only if they were relevent to what I wanted to achieve.

What would be your goal for the 3 days?

For someone to listen to what I want to achieve and to actually address the reasons for my confidence issues and give me practical skills to improve. I know that I can ride well behaved and quiet horses, what I want is to be able to have some skills to put into practice when I get scared on the more forward ones.

What would put you off?

A vague programme and not much riding. Too many in a group.

What would make you really interested?

The feeling that someone really understands what it is like to have a lack of confidence, and how important it is to get over this. Someone who takes the time to chat on the phone and who listens to you. I want to feel like someone actaully wants to help me rather than just take my money.

The answer would be no for me. Why? Because I go to pieces in a group situation with other people and travelling I would find stressful. Staying overnight definitely wouldn't be an option - just doesn't appeal to me. Riding in front of anybody other than OH, family and a riding instructor that I know well is also a no-no. God, I sound pathetic don't I????! Just don't "do" other people that well where horses are concerned. Am very shy in public and wouldn't say boo to a goose, so probably wouldn't end up gaining any confidence from the sessions at all. Hope that doesn't sound too negative!!!
