Coronavirus

 Okaaaaaay........ - so I am very much in the vulnerable category Ownedbychanter and it is almost 100 per cent a given that if I get this thing I will die - no if ands or buts. - Not being facetious here but please do tell me what precautions you think me and the many others like me should be taking to protect ourselves when half the very robustly healthy population is seemingly just intent on stocking up on bog roll and taking all the hand sanitizer and soaps before me and the OH, in my usual 'laid back not panicked mode' even turn up to the supermarket for our usual weekly shop? What are these precautions you speak of?
I am possibly in this group? A common cold effects my health. It shouldn't wipe me, but will potentially do that to those I live with and hence be life changing in that respect.
We can take precautions and be responsible /sensible adults - however, reading @carthorse post that there are people who can't even be bothered to get themselves tested and stay away from others while they wait, I do wonder how we can.
How many people have flown back, mixed with everyone, then fall ill. They don't know if it can be passed before a person shows symptoms do they.

I am sorry if my response is not the pandering you are use to on this forum.

Everyone bows down to you but not me and I’m not sorry for it,

I am in the military as you well know I put myself at risk again and again and will do so in June for four months away from my family and friends. So yes if you are in the vulnerable category take extra precautions why would you put yourself at risk. Stocking up on lol rolls and hand wash is not going to stop it. Not going to public places and large gatherings public transport for a start will help.

I on the other hand have no choice when the military say get in there, guess what .. I go. so please don’t take the higher ground with me because if military rule is issued who do you think is going out there and hey guess what we don’t have any magical equipment that stops us getting it

Sorry OBC but I’m with @Cortrasna on this one, I too am in an at risk group and also would like to know just what I’m supposed to do to protect myself from it while those who are not in the at risk category go about their lives as normal without a care for others?
My illness is genetic, other than not being born in the first place there isn’t much I can do about it and I don’t wish to offend but your using your job in the forces and putting yourself at risk is no comparison, you chose that life, no one forced you into it.

Also @OwnedbyChanter i am following the government advice on keeping myself safe, in fact I do this as a matter of course, regardless of coronavirus, I don’t go to large gatherings, I don’t like people so I don’t tend to go anywhere where there are likely to be groups of people, I use hand sanitiser (well I did until every moron out there stock piled it), I wash my hands regularly, I stay at least 3ft away from anyone other than my husband and daughters, I wipe every surface of my office with anti bac wipes after every visitor but still I get people coming in coughing and not even bothering to cover their mouths, my only option would be to quit work but unlucky for me I can’t afford to do that just yet.
So if you’ve any more helpful advice I’d appreciate it?

My grandparents have very poor health and early stage dementia. Short of locking them in their house we can't stop then going through their daily ritual of getting the bus into town :(

@OwnedbyChanter I also think your post was a step too far. There are limits to what people can do to protect themselves and I don't think it's at all unreasonable to ask those who know they've exposed themselves to this virus to self isolate and for everyone to act in a sensible manner. If something like this was going round our horses we'd be imposing strict isolation, so why can't we as people?! Your job is irrelevant, it's what you've chosen to do and you know the risks when you choose. As for what felt like a personal dig at Cortrasna, well just don't.

They are so frustrating aren’t they? All we want to do is protect them, my Dad who’s 86 now says, ‘I’ve had a grand life, bout time I gave me seat to someone else’

I, for one, a, very glad I live on a tiny island with little, if any contact, with anyone if I choose not to.

having said that, I have just received an email from a tour guide who wants to bring his tour to meet and a Minions, like last year. I have said yes but am now beginning to worry as we are a very popular cruise ship destination. If by summer, it is everywhere, I will probably cancel the lot.

drawbridge going up. Sharks being put in the moat!

@Kite_Rider Can we make our own sanitizer? It's alcohol and something.

I hope that what I read in the news today is bull rocks, because if Italy has allowed people from lock down cities to fly to the UK unchecked, I am unusually beyond words! This is one of our biggest problems, how can we protect ourselves against morons.

Did anyone see the news about the care home in the USA? I think that footage shows the stark reality of the difference between flu and this virus. Now I am not a social person, I wouldn't even say I particularly like oooomans, I like my own space, I am independent.
But If you get the flu or you get pneumonia you have friends and family at your bedside. With this virus you have nobody, and I mean nobody. You are in isolation and will spend the last days on earth alone.
Maybe that's why some vulnerable people are concerned.

On a lighter note anyone riding today?

(1 A)I am sorry if my response is not the pandering you are use to on this forum.

(1 B) Everyone bows down to you but not me and I’m not sorry for it,

(2) I am in the military as you well know I put myself at risk again and again and will do so in June for four months away from my family and friends. So yes if you are in the vulnerable category take extra precautions why would you put yourself at risk. Stocking up on lol rolls and hand wash is not going to stop it.

Well lets take each personal and vitriolic comment one by one shall we - in a military fashion so you will understand my response clearly?

1A and 1B) Please do show examples of where this forum 'panders' to me?? If you care to statistically do your fact checking you will probably find I have had more slapped wrists and people disagree with me on this forum than any other member! Ridiculous statements and had no idea you were harbouring such vindictive and a small minded opinion of me - but its Ok I can live with that but perhaps step away from the gin bottle and check facts before posting any further personal observations about me eh?

(2) What the heck has being in the military got to do with the topic - you chose your career dear nobody forced you into it? sorry didnt they tell you when you signed up that when they say go - then you damn well go?? Perhaps a sympathy poor heroic me post??? Not bowing down to that old guff lady!

(3) Where exactly do you feel I took the higher ground - I asked you to tell me what these precautions are that you think me and other vulnerable groups should be taking, because according to you we are on our own with this - don't think the army or anyone else will be rushing to the aid of anyone anytime soon if they all have your dismissive attitude. And still you haven't told me what exactly these precautions we knackered and old members of society should be taking that we aren;t already along with everyone else?

Let me enlighten you here - being in the military does NOT give you any right to tell me and others like me that basically its tough shite go look after ourselves, we are on our own with this?. Is that an official opinion and statement from HM Armed Forces - sanctioned by your superior officer or just your own viewpoint on the section of society that will most likely we wiped out if this virus remains uncontrolled ?

As you were - stand easy!

And yet again - a slightly lighter note - just pondering here - I have lots of horsey type stuff lying around - hibbiscrub - some other red jollop that is for mixing up in large quantities for cleansing brushes and other stuff if you have something like ringworm doing the rounds. I wonder if any of this would be useful for hand cleansing and surface de bugging etc...can't think it would do much for your skin but would kill most bugs surely?

We are having cases jump here.
Many of the Massachusetts cases stemming from a BIOGEN conference
15 new cases as of today.

Still just 3 so far here in Rhode Island.

I have a doctor appointment soon and 2 dental im not thrilled to be going to.

2 doctors in southern CONNECTICUT
have tested positive.

The person coming back to the yard after coming back from Italy really should be turned away by the yard owner...
But the almighty DOLLAR or POUND
speaks.
Does she have more horses there or buy more lessons or training that the OWNER wants to kiss her BUTT..

Its a red flag as to both the person AND
the yard owner. Being LAX

The person for going to a hot zone
AND THEN NOT GIVING A CARE TO GOING TO THE YARD

and worse yet. THE OWNER BEING FINE AND DANDY WITH IT..

ID BE FURIOUS

I am the same, thinking about the dental appointments me and Mr T have. But even if I cancel his, I could still pick it up and infect him, so I can't win. I'm going to re evaluate nearer the time.................

I was thinking of my mite powder, it suffocates the little critters.
