I wonder how the majority of parents feel? I don't know anyone with young kids to ask on that. I doubt if my own parents would have been happy about sending me back.

I have friends with school age children and a lot of them aren't happy and are very worried.
Everyone is different and we maybe going through the same storm but we are not all in the same boat I realise.
I feel I can breathe because the tourists have gone. We've had them here in their thousands since goodness knows when. So maybe I am just feeling very tired and I want my town back.
We've still got tourists as I think they are trying to keep it going until the end of October. But I don't feel as anxious as I did at the start being decended on with Water, Mothering Sunday etc etc.

Yeah you are right newforest - we are all different yet all going through the same storm. The tourists are still lingering up here, but I'm still amazed at the amount of people who live here yet don't seem bothered! None of our friends seem even in the slightest bothered, their lives are really truly back to normal - and not the "new normal" either!
I'm just doing my best to remain safe as I can be - and not letting it rule my life. Even though I'm not a great socialiser in general, I still do miss certain things, but I'm trying to adapt those too. One day I'll feel safe enough for a beach walk. Not atm, there's too many people and too many loose dogs. Normally the loose dogs would be welcome - but not atm.

My daughter's back at uni today, though it's online lectures. She got told her placement too - infectious diseases ward - don't know whether to laugh or cry!

Barely anyone wearing face masks at uni, despite it now being a rule that they are now compulsory. And we did group work again. Make a poster together. Which you can hardly do socially distanced.
The safest places to be is probably the hospital and the doctors etc. They have aimed to be covid secure since day one. They shut their doors! They are still using the same system, the doors are still shut.

She never fails to amaze me - very excited with this placement - I think she's expecting Ebola, or rabies or something. All but rubbing her hands together.

Agree with Gary - The NHS people who may be exposed to the virus have highest protection. Provided the students themselves take care and use it properly.
One reason she may be on infectious diseases is that NHS staff who have been doing that work all summer and did not have children of school age are now at last going on holiday. And may be exhausted. My NHS surgeon daughter is about to go away for 2 weeks. But to reassure you Huggy, she has been working non stop since March and none of her colleagues has caught it.
On the other hand she hasnt been near OH and me. Not even to the gate.

Both my Oxbridge uni student grand daughters who have looked after us will now be going back to their unis. They have both already been allocated rooms.
We are her support bubble, as a single parent. Her two boys will stay with us, the days she's working. We're (touch wood) reasonably fit and healthy, with no underlying issues, so should be fine. No alternative, I'm afraid - she'll be off to work at around 6.30 am and not back until after 6, so 4 days a week, we need to have them overnight, and take to school, nursery etc. I'm sure, as you say, she's probably landed one of the safest areas to have her placement.
If you are grandparents having small children come back as you say, that doesnt sound too good. Depends on your age I suppose.
We have been lucky. Our daughters have husbands. The people in our family suffering in isolation are the other Grannies, widowed or divorced, less able bodied than OH and me, and needing carers to come to their homes. But even they have stayed Covid free so far.
Your daughter is lucky to have you. I wouldnt have the energy to look after little ones.
I've stopped reading the headlines - apart from the local ones. I think I was suffering from an information overload!
Ive not read news either. Just here people say this areas in lock down, that areas now in lockdown. I just heard a bit of news that said from tuesday somewhere else is in lockdown. Well excuse me but todays friday. Why allow another 3 days of movements to spread the virus further. It should be instant decision. We are locking the town down today. I must be missing something.
Yes they should lockdown asap. It's almost silly because I did wonder if folk just go out more - in the lead up to a lockdown just in case they don't manage to get everything they need / see people they want to. It probably causes more movement giving people three days notice!
I think we are walking on a tight rope of heading towards another lockdown if we don't sit up and pay attention.

Saying that our area has lost people in the care homes again- the residents are not going anywhere, sadly others are bringing it to them.
Schools are sending kids home, we knew that would happen. But we didn't realise just how disruptive that is because a child under 14 needs a parent with them, so the adult is off work- are they paid?
A business here is closing, the offices not going back means not enough passing trade. That's just one of many that we will lose.
They give you notice re local lockdown to try and reorganise your life. I don't think people are doing the panic buying that they did last time. We were told local lockdown would happen. It's happening.

We need to look at fixing this as a long term solution, a vaccine is just covering up the issue (I'm not anti vaccine). Did anyone see the Attenborough show? Climate change is partly to blame for pandemics spreading. Human life as we know it needs to change to fix this.
I didnt see the Attenbrough, no. and I agree that international travel allows viruses to spread. But it doesnt make sense to me to blame global warming for Covid.
