I was always under the impression that Fjord was pronounced Fee ord like ford (cars)but with more of a fee on the f (if you know what i mean.) Have also heard them being just called fords which doesn't sound too bad either.

Just been looking at some fjord videos and came across one of someone with their fjord but in the video the girl keeps refering to it as a fi jord, jord pronounced like jordan. Sounds terrible, please tell me they're wrong:eek::eek::eek::eek:

What is the 'correct' pronunciation?

Nope. That sounds stoopid! It's not a natural sound to make linguistically (at the beginning of a word) so they are just saying it as they read it.

Sounds hilarious! Esp because they have a west of Scotland accent (like myself) and at first i thought they were foreign, then i realised what they were saying , had a right giggle!! :D:D:D I have a couple of words that my hubby and various friends slag me off about too, again its the west of scotland dialect thats to blame!! I love it!

The girl in the video sounds very ayrshire (where i used to live) and they say things like 'a jist poo-ed it oot' ( i just pulled it out) so im not surprised they have fiJords there. I miss it alot:p:p:D Highland dialect is boring, too posh!

i have actually been up the Norwegian Fjords themselves and the locals pronounced it Fyord - although when i say it with my Brummie accent the pronunciations Fee-ord and Fyord sound the same anyway!:D

Love it! I adore the west of Scotland alphabetic pronunciation, reminds me of home.

Where else do they say I J as aye jie, fantastic.
