History Of The Welsh Section D Pony / Welsh Cob

The Welsh Section D Pony, or Welsh Cob as it is also known, became well established as a breed by the fifteenth century and was used mainly for farm work and as a means of transport, both ridden and in harness. Welsh Cobs were also used by the army for pulling guns and equipment and were ridden by the infantry. Stallion licensing was introduced in 1918 and the best stock was identified by competing in trotting contests.

Yes, welsh cobs are beautiful, and very sensitive. It is very easy to mess one up. But understand them and build a strong bond and you will have a horse that will take you anywhere. Kelly Marks says that the welsh cob keps her RAs in business!

Do I have the only level headed, easy natured welsh cob in the world? Even his odd "moment" is nothing that a firm but fair hand & attitude can't deal with.

Mine too - but she can get excitable when doing fast work/jumping so you need to get her attention rather than getting heavy handed otherwise she'll throw a strop and quite rightly too! No problem for someone who knows her ways but could lead to problems for someone who doesn't think beyond giving firmer aids!
