Do they bruise?

Do horses bruise on the outside of the hoof?? I know that they bruise on the underside but my lad seems to have a purple bruise on his white foot, not sure if this is common as have never seen it before.

If so is there anything majorly wrong or has he just simply knocked it or perhaps someone has trodden on it (now he knows what it feels like!!)

Sorry if put in wrong place just want some opinions.

Mine had a minor bleed after shoeing one time-it will go quite soon, just check for heat etc.

Molly had one - farrier said it was an old bruise, growing out. She has one white hoof so it was easy to see. She wasn't fussed by it
