Somewhere over the rainbow...
I was just wondering, we never really booted Blue up as none of my boots fitted her as her legs were so chunky but now Zulu the warmblood is on the scene he has legs made for boots so I prefer to boot up all round including overreach boots just incase!

I boot him up with stretch and flex training wraps on all fours and neoprene overreach boots! He has black for at home and white for partys and lessons!

Yep, and to freeschool :)

Brushing boots on his fronts, fetlock boots on hinds.

Merlyn's just very fine boned, very clumsy and liable to tripping (no foot problems), graceful like a fairy elephant to be honest

I don't, my horse moves straight and therefore doesn't need them for schooling.

ETA, I do put knee boots on for hacking though when I remember, never gotten into the habit of using them, and hi viz ones in poor daylight.

I would also use boots for XC if we did it.

I never used to usebotts for schooling unless i was doing lateral. When at comps I always use boots as he can clip himself if turning sharp.

I dont see the harm in over booting TBH.

I don't boot up at all at home - I think booting up everytime you jump can teach them to be careless as they don't feel it as much when they touch a pole. Always boot up out on farm rides or going XC though - apart from anything just because he's so clumsy!

always boot up, star has splints on his front legs and a windgall on his hind, plus he's very clumsy and getting on a bit now, better safe than sorry with him!

No I don't, mainly because I ride through a lot of mud. Could do with over reach boots but he hasn't been doing it much lately.

Nope. I just can't see how wrapping stuff round the outside of a leg can improve upon the design.

Nope, Stumpy never needed them - but we never jumped bigger then 2ft6 so...

Also, she's pigeon toed so her legs never brushed cos they never went the right TO brush.

Sometimes, I think boot up for fashion purposes, but if the horses need them, then why not? :)

I think it definitely depends on what you're doing - I lose count of the amount of times XC Alps manages to whack his legs on stuff, and generally not even jumping - today he managed to whack his leg on a random fence as he trotted past it  :o

no, only for lungeing as they are on a circle, or xc. if a horse can't walk, trot and canter without stepping on itself it is no use to me. if i did a lot of lateral work so increased risk of brushing, or if the horse moved in a way that made it overreach or brush, i would.

like kate, i can't see howanything wrapped round the outside of the leg - not even on a joint - can make an appreciable difference to the concussion coming up through the ground so i only boot to protect against external injury.

there are studies going on which seem to be finding that overheating in the leg from booting can make injury worse if they do a tendon while wearing them.

I use boots allround, all the time on any horse I am training (including my own).
Prevention is better than cure IMO :D

I use over-reach boots all the time coz he has been known to remove chunks from is heel! and i also use brushing boots for free schooling, lunging and hacking (when I remember :o)

theres someone around my area that has over-reach boots on ALL 4! rubber rings on both back legs, and brushing boots on front and back! i think that is what i would cool overbooting!

xXx

Nope only use boots for xc, and then just front brushing boots, have used them a few times jumping at home after he cut his leg and had stitches just to protect it if he knocked any, but now dont bother any more.

yes always. I have quite a collection of boots. Tendon and fetlock boots for showjumping in black and white. Brushing boots for hacking and schooling also in black and white. Cross country/hunting etc.. professionals choice wraps in black and green. plus a few pairs of overreach boots. Its a case of better safe than sorry.

Shes booted for everything riding, freeschooling, lunging/longlining and when in the walker. Shes a big eejit and any excuse to mess about or have a buck she does. I'm always afraid of her stepping on herself.:D

Yes, it dosn't matter even if they move straight because they can spook and shy at stuff and acidents happen, also they're cheaper than vets bills. Boots don't make them lazy jumping either as tendon boots only protect the hind hoof cutting into the fron tendon if the horse lands dodgey they don't support the joints or ligaments sport boots do that.:)
