Bored of riding the same routes?

I'm really struggling to find my motivation to ride because I am bored silly with our short routes, the shortest just 20 mins around the housing estate and the shortest forest route is the housing estate plus 25 mins in the forest, I've done both so much since jess hasn't been 100% that I'm fed up with them, I just want to go further a field to go different routes. The annoying bit is i know if I'm more consistent doing the short ones she'll get stronger and then we can but I'm battling myself to do it.

Yes I only have one or two routes out hacking and they are all roads, I used to really enjoy it but I am getting so fed up with the same scenery, same people etc that I have just been riding in my field as its quicker and I can do more than riding along a road. I used to love hacking but have just lost the motivation to do it at the moment, my shortest hack would be about an hour which also puts me off if I am not feeling in the mood.

Not yet! I'm lucky because we have quite a few variations where our yard is. Yes, there are the same-olds - and these can get stale - but there are still routes that I have yet to be shown. The shortest "loop" ride is about an hour, less if you are speedy, but livestock gets moved in or out of fields that we ride past which provides interest - and challenges!! Gracie still really doesn't like sheep, just riding past - and now there are some in what we call the "park" where a bridle path runs through so we have to go through them! :p G and I did this on Friday for the first time since the sheep were installed again after a winter break and as we were solo I wisely dismounted and led her through until we were "safely" back the other side of a gate again!! :p:p

We have the option of doing day rides too as we can hack further afield to various places.

I'm sorry @Trewsers, I must sound like a spoild brat, I am forever grateful I can ride Jess at all given where we were at less than a year ago.

I think its just the lure of the forest, theres 58,000 acres to play with and were stuck in a tiny corner at the moment.

Not really because entry to miles of varied hacking is only 250m in one direction and 800m in the other direction along our lane. And if I'm up for a little more roadwork there is lots more to choose from.

I get a bit bored with those 250m and 800m sections but I can't complain!

Noooooo! You are not spoilt!!!! I am very low key and unambitious, I can also see why good riders like yourself want to explore:D If I weren't such a wuss I'd be wanting to go further afield too:)

No because the cob keeps me busy. Today she decided the lady with a pushchair was scary.
We have a variety of routes that are like a cobweb. You can do short or just tag a bit on.
We can go eight to ten miles in either direction. So added together and you have 20 miles. Off road is a struggle and limited, but because I swap fields it keeps it fresh. I will be moving onto using another field when stock moves.
I have the beach.

I do get bored even though I'm lucky as I do have variety. I have a short housing estate ride which is 20 mins trot. I mapped it the other week and it was 2 miles. But I can then add on I'll go up this road and back down there bits. I can also go down the road a bit turn right and do the other housing estate loop adding on bits. If I go the opposite way I can go through a fields for a canter or off up the hills. However the the field gets boggy and the hills in winter can be muddy and slippy so you can't canter so I stick to road and housing estate during winter, with the short nights it's ok for a quick whip round but doing the same routes even slightly varied still bores me.

yes, the main reason i bought skye when i already had brook. Brook could only do the short 20 mins routes as going further afield meant more traffic. I love to hack, hacking off for hours at a time is my thing :)

Yes, but mainly because Raf is switched off and ploddy on familiar routes. I'm really hoping that we can get out and about more, as soon as he starts putting a bit of weight on.

We tagged two loops together and were out for over two hours this evening. Lousy weather for most of the day but the clouds parted for us and the sun came out. Gracie still wanted to race Albi for the first few canters, but she didn't throw any shapes this time and settled one the tickle was out of her toes. Good fun.

He prefers the same routes as is reasonably confident in doing them now and apart from the odd tap dance and snort he's a good lad. Personally I like going different places however he's better behaved on routes he knows, on new routes he gets excited and becomes a spooky mess! Not that that's a massive issue ( as there's no badness in it) and doesn't stop us but it just means I generally feel we are back to square one! Over summer though I must keep pushing his comfort zone, what fun it is to have a wuss for a horse:D x

Yes I get bored doing the same routes. My attitude to hacking has changed a lot in general though. Before I had a trailer and before I re-started jumping, hacking was my main thing. I was keen to get into endurance riding and went on very long hacks as part of a training programme that included interval training etc. I was willing to hack on roads etc. So I had a lot of choice about where to go which was fun. And I enjoyed exploring - just heading out with a map. But over time I have become much more cautious. I hate roads now and really rarely go on them which is very restrictive. And don;t like riding anywhere I have not recce'd first! Now that I have a trailer I mostly hack places that are for horses only - farm rides/gallops/pleasure rides etc. I am not sure why I have become so nervous but I'm more confident flying round a hunter trial course set up for horses than hacking sedately down a lane shared with vehicles!!

I get bored too (and like SeeingSpots I am working on getting some transport)

I was driving into Guildford by the back road this morning and realised there was another really nice route I can do with only a couple of hundred metres of small lane in it. Now all I need is the time - it's a long one!
