Dog eats apple- Is it good for her?

My dog loves apples too, but you made me curious so I did some searching. General consensus seems to be that apple flesh and skin are fine. Some debate about whether seeds are okay or not. I've been letting mine eat apple cores, so maybe I won't do that any more :o

AFAIK, the only fruit that is dangerous for dogs is grapes (and by extension, raisins).

what will a raisin do to them

My old dog used to eat apples, I used to give him mine when I had finished with them.

The dog I've got now eats raw carrots, I think its because he doesn't want the horse and rabbit having something without him having a bit as well.

my mums staffie is a pig for most food but loves carrots fresh from the garden and plums off the tree. She will snuffle around looking for windfalls  but oh lord she gets VERY bad wind after eating them!

My sisters dog (mum's dogs mum!!!) loves apples and will steal them and hide them in her bed:eek:

Grapes and raisins

Here's a link about grapes and raisins:

(ASPCA is American version of your RSPCA)

I didn't know about this until recently, and was quite horrified as my dog also loves grapes. We used to share with him as a treat. But it can be fatal :(

I also notice that apples are not on their list of people foods that are dangerous to dogs, so another vote that apples should be fine.

Yes, my sister-in-law told me and (not that I didn't believe her, she knows her stuff!) I went and looked it up because I'd never heard that. I knew about the onions, but not the grapes and raisins. My dogs love both, but they certainly aren't getting them anymore!

On the topic at hand, though, I gave Bear some apples and a carrot earlier. He LOVES them!

I've heard about the grapes / raisins & chocolate warnings, but I'm sure they're talking about more than a few to be poisonous. Dogs are scavengers,so designed to swallow anything edible, including every other creatures' poo, which they seem to love!

I've had multiple dogs for 30-odd years, lots of different breeds & crosses, & never had untoward effects from tossing them a few grapes. They'll eat anything mostly - melon rind tonight, spare pieces of most fruit, & veg like swede, celery, parsnip. Dogs can be allergic to all sorts of things though, especially stuff in bought dog food - colourings, preservatives & 'fillers' like sugar beet & all the things dogs wouldn't normally eat, like oats, maize & wheat!

Anything in moderation is okay. Grapes are fatal be to be honest you're talking about them eating bags and bags before it will show effect.

Personally I feed my dogs (got 5 rescues) raw meat, I wouldn't put any commerical dog food in them, I don't eat Macdonalds everyday (well don't eat it ever actually cos I'm vegi) and in my eyes all commerical dog foods are equivalent of MacD to me! Mine all have vegetables and fruit in their meals, they love raw carrots too. Carrots have no nutritional value to dogs but doesn't do them any harm and they love to crunch them. Better for them than raw hide chews etc. ;)
