Heya Guys Hope you all having a great weekend!
well...
my X-riding school pony will not go down on the bit when asked :p. Were he has been jabbed and pulled and messed around allot he does not understand what I'm asking for, bless him and I wouldn't expect him to either.

I think I have an idea of other options but I just wanted to hear yours first :)

Cheers guys!

Riding school horses can often be difficult to get down onto the bit as people often ask incorrectly in lessons- it varies for different horses, some need firmer pressure than others or a different method- the main thing for an ex-RSer is to make your aids very clear and precise so it cannot be confused with anything else/a jab etc.

Hope this helps, I'm sure it's not your fault though at all! :)

Cheers,
I forgot to say... he has a hard mouth!
And he has NEVER been asked to go down on the bit in the full 5 years of him being a riding school pony

That could play a big part then, maybe he just can't feel what you're asking or has not actually been taught? Again, really clear aids should help with this and stronger maybe than you normally would?

I have tried being more clearer but absolutely NO response

Joy is an ex riding school horse (was on working livery) and the lack of consistencey she had with her riders not to mention the lack of schooling meant that she was wasted and no amount of asking would get her on the bit as she didn't understand what you wanted :(

That's all changed now as I decided I wanted to feature enough in her life to make a difference but a half hour lesson once a week wasn't enough for me to encourage the changes she needed to make.

It'll just take some time I'd imagine. I think one of the best ways would be to ride actively into a consistant but allowing contact and hopefully in time he'll start working lower and more correctly. Using lots of bending exercises with an active inside leg could hopefully work as well. What has your RI suggested?

Also, does he lean on your hands at all?
