Dragging hind feet in Trot????

Hey,

I was wondering if it was normal for horses to drag their back feet in the trot. I am not talking about lazy dragging, and definitely not Wobbler type dragging. I have just noticed that some do and some dont. For example, an arabian gelding at our barn picks up his feet extravagently, but then a quarter horse does not. It is not being lazy-he picks it up under himself-they just dont come off the ground until he puts it flat down.
Does this affect dressage scores at all?? I am very confused on this issue!!! (A grandprix dressage schoolmaster does that (dutch warmblood) and so did a Trakhener- again, schoolmaster (but definitely not an anyone can ride horse)

hi,

We have a 6 year old event horse, who has big paces and is extremely active. he does a lot of road work and he has recently worn the toes on his hind feet excessively, we noticed that he catches his toes on the road with each step and thought he was being lazy.

The farrier in fact told us that it is because of how active he is with his hind leg!

my horse did drag his hinds a bit and vet scanned and said it was early signs of arthritis in the hocks. Has remedial shoeing now to help the breakover and doesn't do it anymore and is on supplements for the arthritis.
