Drought in the South and East... How are you coping?

There was a terrible 5 minutes about it on BBC Breakfast this morning where Sian and Bill failed to ask anything useful at all to the Environment Agency person given 17 SE counties are already in a drought - But basically water is too heavy so a pipe will be too expensive apparently.. Unfortunate really as if we got the 20% over average the north had this winter to our 25% under we are almost there..

The farmer they were interviewing was saying that they had made the decision to stop 200 acres of potatoes and put a low water crop instead which would mean he would produce 40,000 tonnes less potatoes and that is just one farm so I can see the effect it's going to have in the supermarkets.

It's not just the reservoirs in the south though - the groundwater is almost at it's lowest point since the mid 1970's and that needs winter rain for recharge because once the trees start to leaf up and the grass starts growing very little of the water gets to recharge the aquifer... :frown:

I am sure that this cant apply to Scotland. We have had rain, rain and more rain!

Must be a worying thought for those of you afffected
