Hi All

I am at the end of my tether with easybed. My gelding is on box rest and i am mucking out for more than an hour 3 times a day. When i come to him the bed is full of millions of tiny pieces of poo all mixed in to the bedding. Because the stable is quite dark i have to pick up about 5 bits then go back to the door so the light can shine and i can see the next few bits it is awful. I actually cried this morning when i saw it. I spent an hour picking up bits and have had to leave the rest. The poo is just becoming part of the bedding now it is disgusting. This bed has been down 3 days from scratch and is a mess. It also moves around everywhere am i supposed to dampen it???

Any advice or other suitable bedding advice will be appreciated. Do wood pellets move as much ?

I have similar problems with wood pellets. It doesnt move around too much but I get frustrated by the little bits of pooh everywhere! I dont find it too bad though as I deep litter through the week and only muck out properly at the weekend so it's a 10min job every day with an hour or so at the weekend. But when I muck out I do sit there for ages with a bucket picking up all the little bits of pooh and there's always more in the bedding no matter how long I spend picking it up!

Sorry this probably doesnt help very much but my point is I dont think you'd find wood pellets any easier.

We use aquamax. It looks like pony nuts when you put it down, about 8-10 bags for standard stable. Then you spray it lightly with water, we use a watering can, and leave for 15 mins. It breaks down and looks a bit like crumble mix. Poo stays on top in lumps and wee soaks in and then lifts out in lumps.Depending on how often they are in depends on how often we need to refill, generally 1/2-1 bag per week per stable, if they're in at night. We have been using it for about 4 years. Because it is semi broken down when you use it,it's more bio-degradable than shavings too. It is more economical than shavings, which seem to have gone through the roof price wise. Our supplier gives discount on bulk purchases(10 and over) and he delivers free too.

Sorry to hear your boy is on box rest - its awful I know! All that constant mucking out. To be honest I've never used Easybed - I absolutely LOVE NEDZ bedz. I have both the pro and the original, it makes a fantastic comfy looking bed and so easy to keep clean. Could you try it for a change? I find it extremely economical too, once you've laid the bed you only need top up with a bale a week (might be more if box rest is involved)

i used to use easibed and hated it!!! now i use wood pellets but soak them really well so they have completely fluffed up and turned into powder/ sawdust. the powder coats the poo and seems to stop it breaking up as much and i find it so much easier to muck out. try to get hold of a few bags and add to your existing bed and see if it helps.:)

I use Auboise and have the same problem:confused: I used shavings before but it didn't soak the wee up so I was usig loads. The auboise soaks the wee up and the wet patch is half the size but the poo goes everywhere. I now get the yard to muck her out costs £3 a day and saves my sanity but that's ony untill August then I am doing it again. Sorry not much help for you.

I've been using Rapasorb (chopped rape straw). Have found it really good, but I tend to pick out the little bits of poo with my hands (wearing ruber gloves!).

I tried easibed last year, as my boy is quite gross in his stable. I think I lasted for about 8 weeks (if that) before I gave in and switched to straw. Like you, I was finding that the bigger bits of poo were ok to shift, but it was the little bits that just made the bed really grim looking. I took the wet out every 4 days and the smell made me heave! Am back on straw now, as he can be really gross, but it only costs me £2.50 a bale, so it works out much cheaper!!

have you tried snowflake?

we use shredded bank notes which is good as dead cheap and poo usually stays in the same place.

if the poo has moved loads is it possible that your boy box walks and that changing the bedding wont actually help?

Snowflake is exactly the same as easibed - it is manufactured just across the road from where I live, so when I was stuck for easibed, I'd nip to the factory and buy some snowflake!

Shredded bank notes?? I would be so tempted to try and stick em back together to spend!!:D

sorry didnt mean snowflake meant wooburn i just had snowflake stuck in my head as was talking about it earlier!! is wooburn any different?

and eys sometimes you can see all the shiny holograms on the 50s its very exciting!!
