I went out for a hack today on my 14.1hh Connemara gelding. We were with a 17.3hh WB, a 16hh Cleveland Bay and a 15.1hh Welsh D. I was last in the hack due to our shorter stride ;)

We came around a corner and I met two middle age women. One riding a Fell and one on a NF type. We just looked at each other with beaming smiles and said 'LOVELY Ponies!'.

It's the first time I've ever met other adult pony riders...I was well chuffed. I can't believe that it's taken me so long to see another adult pony rider. It was great.

Do you ever see other people riding ponies or are you the only one in a world of big horses?

I'm usually the only adult on a pony ... but then I'm usually the only adult ... because .... all my riding buddies are 12 years old !! (And only one of them is on a pony !)

Hi Popdog, well, as you know, I have been riding my daughters previous pony, a very naughty but loveable 13.2hh NF for the last year, and now I have my fantastic new boy, 14.2/14.3hh Irish something....

I LOVE riding ponies, they are so much fun, and I can actually get a rug or a saddle on without needing a step ladder.

Living in the New Forest, I see lots of adults riding Forest ponies, and having fun, whereas the people riding TB types always seem to be coming off, or having to go slowly because of the dangerous pony tracks and bogs, which the little natives cope so well with.

Ponios Rock - for me! :D

I feel like I am out on a pony when I go to rideouts as all the other horses are mainly big strapping boys and girls.

I would love to feel comfy on a pony but just dont feel right!!!

I dont see a lot of riders adult or child on ponies round my way at all, where are you all hiding??

I dont see many adults on ponies where I live, South Essex, where status symbols rule:mad: I would love to see more adult riding ponies around here.
I was delighted to see a group of tallish adults riding Icelandic horses, around 13-13.2hh at a distance ride in Thetford Forest, Norfolk they made me feel all normal:D and they looked stunning.

That is why we'll be coming (uninvited/unannounced) to visit you and the Rockstar. Be afraid lol :D

lor - I ride in South West Essex (Epping) and it is the land of the big, well schooled dressage horse complete with perfect long legged rider ;)

We do have a lot of fun, you're right :D Yesterday I'd arranged to take my horse out for a ride, went out to the paddock and saw my Pony ... and somehow Pony ended up in the trailer instead. Thing is, with Pony Wonder, you can just gallop about and have fun, and jump little things ... and go splish-splashing about :)

:D :D :D

both sides

When I lived up the country no adults anywhere seemed to have ponies but now I live down in the big city and I have my horse on agistment Iwas the only one who rode a horse till just lately when 1 more horse has arrived at our paddock, everyone else at my yard rides ponies. yet over the road at the next agistment place everyone rides horses. oldbushy

when I first got B I felt like I was the only person on a pony in the world!! (there were highlands across the road but I dont really count them as its not seen as taboo for adults to ride the big natives!) Now there is quite a bunch of us. theres prob about 10 of us now that I know of in the area.

But there is definatly a biker mentality amoungst pony riding adults (you know how bikers always nod at each other when they pass)

I shall take you a picture of my friend and I. We're off riding in a couple of hours - me on a 17hh CDxTB (Kalli bear) and her on her little exmoor at 12.2hh. :D

Everyone at my yard rides ponies, its a horse-free yard! I have two - a welsh D mare and an anglo arab gelding, this is me on my muddy mare :)

I am not really an adult. I am 15 however I am as big as or bigger than many adults and I probably done growing.:D I love ponies. They are cuter and much much more fun than most horses though the really little ones can be nasty sometimes. Luckily I am too big for them.
I rode a pony at camp a few years ago. He was tiny a welsh pony or something. It was so much fun though and he helped me get over my fear of riding without stirrups. I rode bareback. I kept telling myself "If I fall I won't fall far."
I also ride a pony at my barn sometimes but I am too advanced for him. Thye don't have any ponies at my current level except for the one pony I refuse to ride (4 rides 2 times being bucked off, I had enough) and I don't think there are any above either.:(:(:(
There is also a pony at the handicapped riding facility I volunteer at. He is soooo adorable. We call him Pony Man. He wins every slow race we have. He even won a fast rae against the fastest horse in the barn. That was weird.
