Electric fence without the electric?

My battery was stolen a few nights ago and I still haven't bothered replacing it -- both boys are being darling about the fence and won;t go near it ... but that's only because there#s nothing of interest on the other side! No mares, no greener grass!! If there was any of that they'd have ploughed through already ...
 
My flipping great Suffolk Punch doesn't care whether the electric is on or off... he just knocks it flying regardless. the others tend to test the tape first and if it doesn't bite they take great pleasure in taking a section each and then pinging the tape until they pull the posts out.:rolleyes:
 
Luckily my ponys really, really good when it comes to fencing. You can put up electric tape without it being electrified and she won't go through it. No matter how feeble the tape is.

I love my pony. :D:D
 
Like everyone else it does depend on the horse. My only concern would be the possibility of the horse getting tangled up in stray broken tape if they did push through and break it.
 
As others have said my boy also knows when the electric is not on, sticks his head right between the strands (or under the bottom tape) and manages to drag it down. The only place I haven't got it electrified is at the back of the paddock - but then there are just weeds beyond this (then a ditch-yikes), and he has no interest in getting through tape if there's nothing to eat the otherside.
 
i have wooden post with electric rope i have to have the electric on as my shetlands and my baby welsh d climb throught the fence they no when its on or off and kill all my fencing if its off:rolleyes: my older 2 are really good they will stay in all day in there field without the electric off:)
