Can anyone tell me if they have tried the Equisage equipment for their horses. How effective are they, and where can you buy it and what it costs? I understand they are pretty expensive.

Interestingly my vet thinks they are beneficial, and is normally quite sceptical about "alternative" treatments, but she feels the benefits are overall, rather than for specific injuries.

Would appreciate any comments?

Thank you

I've heard good things from people, but don't know anyone who actually owns one for regular use. Apparently you can win an Equissage in this month's Horse mag (not bought it yet so could be wrong). Got to be worth a try :)

I don't think I'd bother if I didn't have a specific need. For a horse needing regular treatment for something it can be a fantastic alternative to physio, for a competition horse or a yard full of horses it can be a worthwhile investment. They do work brilliantly well for a whole variety of problems, but the whole set up (back pad, hand unit and tendon boot) is best part of £2,000. So not a small investment ;) You have to buy from Niagra who make them - they're based in Wales though they have sales reps all over the country who will come and give you a demonstration on your horse if you're seriously considering buying one.

Thank you for postings on Equisage. Yes my horse will need regular help, and someone suggested that this equipment is very useful in these cases, and my vet confirmed they are a beneficial, overall treatment, rather than for specifics.

They are expensive however, but I might just think about getting one (I have two saddles to sell, so will part pay for one if I go ahead.

Thank you :)

Insurance companies will sometimes pay at least part of the cost if you're using it as an alternative to physio which you would have claimed for. Worth checking out if that's the situation ;)

Roseanne, there does seem to be some interest in people hiring these (our yard always had people borrowing it) so if you had the initial funds, you may be able to reap some back by loaning it out for anything up to £20 per session or maybe more for a weekend loan. Not sure of any insurance implications or of how practical it'd be to let it go out of your sight but just a thought. Hope your horse gets better XXX

Thank you for all your postings everyone-I'm definitely trying to persuade myself that buying one would be beneficial :( :) :( :) :( :)

H.R. Fattiness needs to take some weight off as she is normally a good-dooer, so I really need to start riding her now, as although she isn't quite sound yet (and probably never will be completely). I've ordered a Suber (?) pad after reading the postings about these, and hope this will help with the saddle, and the Equisage sounds as though it would be a good investment Augermoon.

Thanks again-I appreciate all your comments.

Roseanne :) :) :)

Postscript on Equisage. I used it today for 20 mins on my horse, and then rode her for half-an-hour, just in walk. When I went back up to yard this afternoon, she was lying down, dozing off! She Never lies down, and Never ignores an almost-full haynet, and how did I react? "ohmyGod what's wrong with her!" Actually, she was so relaxed, and hadn't even been turned out, she was doing what should come naturally, and chilling out. When I checked an hour later, she was by then also doing what comes naturally for her, chewing contentedly on her haynet!

God Bless Equisage and those of you who recommended it! :) :) :) Wish some of the humans on the yard could be so friendly and relaxed! :( :)

I have a friend who brought the 'human' (niagra) version off ebay a fraction of the price, (she paid around £140) the unit is aparently identical but is not cordless, so she uses it with an extension lead and swears by it. Just a thought! Guess their are cons with using the extension lead rather than cordless but it works for her :)

That's interesting Costi-(I have very painful arthritis in my wrists and fingers )and the cost of the human version of the equipment is an awful lot less expensive than the horsey one. The latter is ridiculously priced and no doubt costs a fraction of what it takes to manufacture. Unfortunately, if we are desperate enough to help our horses if we can, we will find some way of paying the price, and I suppose it comes down to business, cost-effectiveness for the suppliers, and understanding your market. Look at the toy industry and how much profit they must make today.

Incidentally, the advantage of the Equisage is that being cordless, you can treat your horse in his/her own stable, and don't have to worry about plugging into a socket which might be some distance away.

Niagra equissage

I have a complete equissage system for sale that has only been used about 5 times. I belongs to a friend that bought it to add as a service in her new buisness which quickly came to a halt with the divorce. Her loss, your gain.
Will sell complete system for $3000.00

Massage machine - the Thumper

I would suggest the Thumper over any other product. I have seen the Equisage system. Thumper is a percussion massage device and penetrates up to 1/4 an inch into the muscle fiber, helping to release tension and knots. The Equisage causes a vibration along the immediate spine area and chest that the chest strap touches. This is only surface, and may be relaxing to the horse, but not actually release the muscle tension. When I use the Thumper on my horse (and myself!), I can see the muscles move up to 12 inches from where I have applied the machine. Plus, you can actually see the horse's top lines elongate!!!

Here's another note: each spring, I pull out my back from conditioning the horses to the point I can not stand up straight. I use the Thumper for 5-10 minutes for 3 days and I am as good as new. It is as if I never had a muscle strain. Created by a chiropractor and used by professionals. The human Thumper is 20% less strong than the Equine Thumper due to the horse's larger muscle mass.

Compared to the expense of the EquiSage, Equine Thumper is $339 US. sharri13@hotmail.com
