Farrier/ shoeing problems :(

My mare can have more difficult moments than backing up and my farrier is fab with her thankfully. I dont think your farrier was rough in any way. Im not saying that at all and hard to comment when cant see it all happening just reading about it.

Getting the right farrier if your horse has issues is vital which I learned the hard way. However, to improve the situation I spent ages every day getting her used to lifting her feet for longer periods of time being held as it was the pressure of being held she freaked out at or longer time held up to be worked on.

If you know the trigger then work on this slowly step by step never pushing beyond the comfort zone making it then a bad experience and horses never forget a bad experience unfortunately.

My horse does look for reassurance anyway. So I don't think getting angry would help. People who saw it was saying he was only there 5 mins before he was getting angry. Other people on the yard have said they dont like this farrier, feels its all rush rush.

So i am going to ask for a second opinion of another farrier who most people on the yard reccomend.

Cortrasna; No i didn't want you to rephase that, I meant you was a bit harsh with what you had written. We have been told he was bad with the farrier, when your on the ground or riding him he looks for reasurrance. I will be teaching him to back up using a halter and rope. I dont think a farrier will need a back protector or a hemlet. I dont like what or have you have wrote that and feel that is uncalled for! I was really looking for advice with sox. Not really a harsh reply which is what I got from you. Once again given I am very new to owning him and he is my first horse ( I have been around horses years) I havent had years of experience dealing with different problems , like you have, maybe. So I feel it was a little harsh for someone who is just starting out and wanting some advice. .
