No not petrol, I have the hand held banger. On our ground though you are best to use a pinch bar and boar a hole first. Makes it easier to bang the post in then.
We also have one that goes on the tractor. Which we use if we have lots of posts to put in.

I normally use a manual banger, luckily being on sand it's easy to get posts in but at the new place there will be 100's to put in. I was looking and you can hire a handheld petrol one easily and pretty cheap, not sure if it's worth just paying the extra for a tractor mounted one tho.

If its hundreds it will be worth possibly getting a contractor in. But I guess it depends on the fencing you are going to use. I think you can hire a tractor mounted one.

There's about 12 acres unfenced, so it will def be a lot. The initial plan is to just do my couple of acres which is only corner posts and a couple on the longer runs, so probably a dozen, as I will be running electric fence. Plus there's 4 acres which has a perimeter fence which will be split into 3 with electric, but theirs will need more posts as their horses have a tendency to test fences (at least when Dan gets out he doesn't destroy things :p)

I only have the hand held standard one, but just googled the petrol ones as I need to do some more fencing soon. Videos don't look massively impressive (seems to take ages to put the posts in) and the farming forum post I read said the standard post rammer is more effective on wooden posts. It's a shame as I can only manage a few posts a day with the one I have.

Hmm, maybe I will look at the tractor mounted one if that's what they said!

I feel your pain, I've had to do all my fencing here by hand, so far I've only enclosed about 2 acres or so and it's been really hard work, I've got 30 acres in total :(
It's a lifelong project, as soon as you get to the end they'll be some at the start needing attention!
