I've been offered a winter grazing field by my very kind neighbour (who has taken pity on me I think!). He has been growing silage and just had it cut the other day. Does anyone know when horses can go back into the field after it has been cut. It's circa 6 acres so I can't wait to use it ! Especially as my other fields are getting muddy and no grass !

i turned my horse into a field cut for silage about 2 weeks after it was cut because that's when i bought her :D but i wouldn't have thought twice about putting her in there straight away if i could have picked her up earlier... (Does that make any sense?!?!)

so i'll be interested if anyone comes back with any tales of caution becuase as far as i know it's fine.....

If the bales/swathes are off there's nothing stopping you putting the horses on.

We often do this to tidy up the bits the contractors miss and clean up the park.

The field looks really low in grass and is quite brown looking. There are edges round about with longish grass so this may be enough for grazing. I guess with the 6 acre size and with there only being 2 horses in the field, the grass will grow back. They are in at night with plenty of hay to munch on so during the day it's really just foraging. This should be ok shouldnt it ?
