My hairy cob has got scabs under his feathers and is itching, so suspecting mites I have been washing his feathers daily with neem oil shampoo. I now have a frontline spray but need to know how often to spray, the best way to get it in the feathers and how far up the legs to go, should I spray his mane and tail as well?

Mites should only live low down, my vet said just to spray up to just above the knee/hock when he suspected Bo had them, a few good sprays getting down to the skin.
I would probably try to part the feathers down the back of the legs and get a good couple of squits right in there.

during the grazing season, spray well into the feathers on the legs every 3 weeks. Apparently invermectin wormers help too, They can be given by injectin in May to help prevent the mite problem, although not licensed for this use in horses, but vet should be happy to do it.
I bought some fly protection leg wraps for one of mine, who used to get the most awful fly bites under her feathers, but she didn't like wearing them.
Mites do cause such misery for feathered horses. washing them in antifungal shampoo seems to help as well.

Thanks - he was still stamping one of his back legs last night when we went out so I gave it another spray, but presumably Frontline should work fairly quickly?
