On an island
Tacked the lovely Fuzzy up today all set to go and when she came out the byre she looked sore and a bit lame. Poor girl. So untacked and booted her on the fronts - took her in the school where it's sand and soft and she looked drastically improved. However I didn't ride her because if there's any hint of sore there then she doesn't want me lumping about on her back. I just hope the boots help her again. She's been without them for well over a month - no problems and not struggling on the stones. Just today - the grass is still green but its slowing down - and she is on her Cushings meds. I wonder if its just the stones and Zi perhaps chivvying her more lately? He can be neurotic and there was something getting his attention the other day in the field in the distance - plus at night its been misty and that gets his dander up.

Well I had to get the on-call vet out as this morning she was minus one of the boots (and it would have to be the seemingly sore foot!) and she was sooooooo lame. I didn't want to spend the next few days worrying myself silly over it and wanted it checking. Mr Trews is good with feeling for tendon issues (lord knows he's had enough over the years with Storm and Joe) but he could not be sure at all what, if anything was going on. He thought he felt a tiny bit of swelling - I certainly couldn't. So vet came, hoof testers on and no reaction. She had a little bit of a pare back and said she couldn't find anything abscess wise, but that was the most likely cause. Either that, or, Fuzzy has gone and stood on a stone again and made herself super-sore.
So she's got Danilon twice a day and we're keeping her in tonight. She really isn't wanting to go anywhere either. She lets me know! During the summer when we had issues she was happy to stop in for a couple of days and then when feeling better she demanded to go out. Vet said just try her in tonight and see how it goes - so that's fine.
I'm relieved it isn't a tendon issue as had so many of those with the others over the years and know what a long road to recovery it is. Just hope if it is an abscess this time that it makes an appearance!
She didn't say to poultice but if Fuz would oblige soak in a bucket of warm and salted water. So I did that after the vet left. Fuzzy tried to drink the bucket of water:rolleyes:but she did settle down when I bribed her with a pile of hay.
