I have a inexperienced green horse to a show recently and it blew his mind and he just ran round in circles for pretty much the whole time and he wouldn't settle. He has been to other yards for lessons, been ridden in different arenas and been to a horsemanship clinic (with other unfamilliar horses) etc but this obviously was not enough to prepare him for this environment! Has anyone had a similar experience and if so how did you approach getting your horse used to this environment in a safe controlled manner as i've never had a horse that hasn't eventually settled down.

Are you in a RC as that may be useful, your horse will then get used to attending rallies ect where small numbers of other horses are present and gradually work up to larger shows. As Jessey said it's only exposure to that type of environment that will help your horse become used to it, I'd definitely look into doing riding club too. x

Yeah I have been thinking of this, thanks :) I was just seeing what other people thought so I'll be on the lookout for a nice calm smallish show :)

yup just keep taking to show rounds, letting them see all the sights and sounds with no pressure on either of you.
