GFS/Fieldhouse saddles?

all the kids on our yard have them but i find them a bit hard in the seat, i suppose it all depends how you fit in them, i like my soft saddle with seat saver :)

I have an ancient one which I love. However I was brought up in the era of unpadded flat saddles so I find them great. I can see however they can be regarded as hard by standards of the latest saddles and to achieve a great position on the flat the bars are set a bit too forward.

i have never tried an Ideal but am getting used to and liking the Albion that came with my loan horse

i do prefer the ideal saddles, we had a 19" made to measure for one of ours horses and it was like an armchair to sit in. all our riding school ponies had them and they hold up well as when used for a couple of hours a day 6 days a week they still looked like new when cleaned.

i have a fieldhouse prov event VSD for my boy, i love it, dont find it hard, people have commented on how comfy it is, he came with an ideal that did not fir him right, everyone has there own preferences as to what suits them and of course their hossys, try them both is my advice :D and enjoy shopping:D

I bought a GFS new but dont really like it - the leather isnt nice and soft even after suppling/cleaning lots of times. But it was the one the saddler brought that fitted :-(

The ideal saddle someone on the yard has is MUCH MUCH nicer, I think it looks much better quality leather,

I would go for the ideal if it fits.....

My friend has a stunning GFS that fits her Welsh Cob mare like it was made for her (she got it secondhand for £300 :D)

My friend has a GFS, bought second hand. About a year ago, the saddler fitting my saddle checked hers and found one of the flexible points was broken  I also find when I rode in it it tipped me forwards, but it has had some more flocking in it since then.

Personally i'm not a fan. The best thing about it is the leather smells nice

compared to an ideal they are cheap and nasty. I tried a couple of GFS saddles when buying my Jeffries and was seriously unimpressed, the leather was of poor quality for the price tag. Not a patch on ideals IMO. BUT if a GFS fit your horse then i'd go for it. I'd generally compromise my opinions on a saddle should it be the perfect fit for the horse.

I've got a GFS with an injection moulded tree. It's symmetrical but a tad banana shaped  Also I had to buy a seat saver, it was a bit of a bum cracker. I used it for years on JS, he seemed OK, but I wouldn't put it on Mrs P.

I have one for sale! 17.5inch (checked receipt defenitley right) (in 1 month when I get new saddle...). I find it very comfy actually! I wonder if there are different models...It has a nice padded saet (I have a particularly bony bum!). I must say I have had few problems with it, apart from it is still giving my horse pressure points despite being re-flocked and adjusted - he has filled out making it slightly too narrow for him, and the tree isnt adjustable like the saddle company ones.

The leather is OK - I wouldn't say amazing, as scuffs under the stirrup leathers quite easily, but cleans up lovely every time.

*sigh*

I hate saddles, i really do.

Curlys a scrawny beasty atm so the wintec i have now fits ok but I know from last year that once she bulks up, theres no way it fits.

I dont want to buy one and then find that once shes muscled up and got chubbier, its far too narrow and pinches (like the wintec).

Does the Wintec suit her with its banana shape? You are welcome to try my old GFS - it's a 17 inch medium/wide - if you can get down here to collect it :) It might be OK on her if a Wintec fits.
