My canter problems are solved! I have no idea what changed between last week and this, but suddenly I was making smooth trot/canter transitions, was able to sit up straight, and keep my hands quiet - all at the same time! Hee Hee! This was so much more fun than going faster and faster in extended trot and then bucking and then stopping dead and then falling in the dirt I still need to work on riding centered as Irish seems to throw me slightly to the right when cantering to the left (which causes all sorts of horrid leg positioning on my part)

Still, we had four lovely canters, two in each direction around the school, and one LOVELY 20m circle at canter. Sorry this is so long, but I am so pleased with Irish I could kiss her drooly old muzzle

Yes, I spent lots of time in between my lessons practicing a nice fluid sitting trot. I think being able to sit deeply through the trot/canter transition is what smoothed things out for us. Hacked out last night and had just a lovely time - I think that Irish's behavioral problems get less and less the better my seat gets.
