My little 13yo cat isn't at all well. She woke me up at 3 a.m. on Monday morning making the most awful choking, strangulated sound. We took her to the vet in the morning cos she wasn't herself, and they said it was probably just a fur ball, but on examining her they think she might have heart/bladder problems. I've taken her for an X Ray this morning and was heartbroken having to leave her there as she's very timid. Her breathing is very fast and laboured as well. Ironically, she was as bright as a button this morning. They have warned me about older cats and anaesthetics etc and I'm going to be a complete wreck till I phone to see how she is about 2 p.m. We lost our other cat in May, so healing vibes for poor Sweep, please:(

Hope its reversable, whatever it is-or at least treatable.
vets always say the anaesthetic thing with older cats just because its a risk- have had a few older cats through anaesthetics, and though one had major problems with it,it was probably more down to her having diabetes and cancer on top of it as well.

if sweep does not wee whilst she's there, dont let them automatically think its another sign of bladder/nerve problems because its common for some cats to not want to wee in strange/new places and they're great at holding it in till they're settled back at home again.

Thanks guys. Turns out she has asthma and they've given me steroid tablets. Heart and bladder look OK although she has slight arthritis in her elbows:o She's sulking a bit and hiding under our bed all the time, as she hates going to the vet.

Its difficult to tell whether she's weeing OK as she goes out into the garden:rolleyes: However, she did wee in her catbox on the way home from the vets:o

We're due to go to Dartmoor for a week in about a fortnight and I'm dreading leaving her:(
