Heatwaves, and the next one

We’re forecast 33, 38, 33 weds-Fri, I like hot weather but that’s too much, it’s getting ridiculous. I’ve disconnected a lot of my electric fence as I’m scared of it earthing on already bone dry brush. I’d give almost anything for a week of rain now.

I think this time the overnight temps are going to drop giving us respite.

I now have a property where all the curtains are lined and blackout. Its made one to two degrees difference. I will take that.

Windy and cool here with odd bursts of sunshine. Just the usual really. T shirts in the house but jumpers or gilets outside. I think June and July must have been a fluke being so warm here!

28 I think for us today.

Dare I depress people by saying all the summer stock is removed / sold/ last few bits in clearance. Autumn pumpkin stock is going out today.
This years theme is Pumpkin. It's not Halloween, this is for your home and garden.

I love pumpkins and see them as an harvest festival type thing.
I have pumpkin bedding that I dig out and a lovely ceramic pumpkin light for the kitchen. They both come out in September. Its a nice seasonal thing. Only like bringing daffs in at EAster.

One more day. Just one more day. Then we can pack the shorts away. Maybe!!!! Get the coats at the ready for all the rain.

Hope everyone's coped with today's heat.

We've actually just had the sea mist come in which changed to misty rain.
It's freezing all of a sudden.
It did mean our inhand walk was nice and brisk. It was a case of shift, I am cold in my thin long heat top thing, shorts and now i am getting wet 😆

This is our grass though. Some of it is still green.

I am offering her a token feed but I am having to hand feed else she won't eat it out of the bucket. I am wondering what her servant died from!!!
Failing that I am going to replace the bucket in case its "off" in some way

Still hot here even at this time of night, and low 30s forecast for tomorrow. BBC is saying possibly some rain late next week, Met Office says not, I do hope BBC is right but normally Met Office is more accurate round here. Today was awful.

The grass has gone, I tried seeing if I could pick a bit between my fingers to get an idea of whether they couud graze at all, but the tiny bit I could just about get with my fingertips crumbled to dust with the slightest pressure. That would be a no then.

BBC and accuweather both say we might get some rain next week, but unless it’s torrential all week I doubt it will make any difference to the grass here. I have 3 paddocks that I hadn’t grazed before it got hot, and I’ve not grazed them hoping that they will recover quicker with some cover on them 🤞 what’s there is burnt to a crisp but maybe 🤞we are at least getting dew overnight now, so that will help.

I’m starting to panic a bit, what hay there is isn’t great quality and it’s expensive (smaller bales for more money) and I’m already haying twice a day. Jess is coughing on the best small bales I can get so I’m back to soaking, but she’s dropped topline so it’s not ideal, I’d buy haylage, I’ve tried, but there’s none to be had this year, other than little feed shop bales which would cost me a small fortune the way they eat! I may have to separate her off so she can have it and put the 3 boys together and see if they are ok on new rounds (the last of last years made Hank and Monkey cough).

We've had that light misty rain stuff all day today. It's made it really humid but at least it's moist.
I have still got grass coming through here. It's not looking dry either it's looking damp.

I don't know how much we had exactly as they left us with a warning for heat I think.
Neither weather app bothered to tell me that!
