Help I have given too much wormer !!!

Can someone please give me some advise - The ring that is supposed to determine the dosage of the wormer Equimax was not on properly and I have given my horse the whole dose instead of half. Will it hurt her ???

What can I do

she should have had 350 and I gave her 700

I have to say I feel really sick - will she get terrible tummy ache

She'll be ok. Watch for signs of colic but chances are nothing bad will happen.

we did the same with our Mini she had a whole syringe full. We phoned the company in a total panick, they reassured us that she would be fine but she may scour or be a bit quite for a day, she didn't do either of these. They also told us that during tests horses where given 10 times the normal dose with no ill effect. If you are worried and to put your mind at ease give them or your vet a call. Oh and our mini is fine.

gave her whole tube when I should have given her half

She weighs approx 360k and I gave her the whole tube EQUIMAX i think it is 700

She only had a worm count of 150 one of the lowest on the yard

She will be absolutely fine, don't worry. As mentioned, the margin for error is huge.

So you double dosed her, many double dose I think once a year to totally clear the system of worms.
Ive double dosed on a few occasions esp if horse has come from a place where the chances of worms is high.
Vel my friesian and Dollie my Welsh were both double dosed when I took them home.

Ditto the above replies, there should be no problem.

My 250kg Welsh A once had 700kg worth of wormer when the same thing happened - the plastic 'dosage' ring broke and she got the whole tube. I phoned the wormer company up and they said their testing is VERY strict, and not to worry, the dose she had received wouldn't harm her.

I had to double dose one of my mares last year as per vets advice after a worm count and they suggested I did my other 2 too just incase, so I really wouldn't worry - I know you're going to anyway.

I have have just dosed mare and bay with equimax after looking at their website theres no need to panic, states on there that in foal mares were given huge quantities and nothing happened to both mare and foal, there is huge margin for error she wil be fine, think I probs overdosed my baby also she scoured for a couple of days but shes fine and shes a month old

Ive just done the exact same thing to my foal gave him 25ml when he should have 5ml for 5 days hes around 90kg will he be okay im worried hes not his self

@tinks if you're worried and he's not right then call your vet, no-one on here can help.

Hope all well. Call your vet. Answer depends on type of wormer as some have narrower safety margins than others.
