Hi

I need to buy a new pair of leathers for the horse I share (his owner's not well atm, so I'm looking into it). The problem is he is regularly ridden by four different people who vary a lot in height, so don't know which length to go for!

Both his owner and I are quite tall (I'm 5ft 11ins, 36in inside leg), while the other two girls who ride him are a bit shorter, around 5ft 2ins and 5ft 5 ins, I would say. His current ones aren't too bad, but I have to ride on nearly the last hole, no idea what length they are

Don't want to buy a nice shiny new pair of leathers and have to punch lots of extra holes in them, so does anyone have any recommendations for which size to buy?

Don't want to spend too much money either, if possible, so any recommendations on which type/brand to go for too?

Thanks v much!

Thanks guys.

Springy, I'm not sure, but would guess the shorter of the other two girls is maybe about a 28" inside leg?

Found a size guide on the Frogpool size which suggests about 60" leathers for someone around my height, but I think I might need even longer due to my gangly legs lol.

Just not sure if they would be far too long for the others? I know we can always punch extra holes, but would rather avoid if poss.

as far as i'm aware, 60" stirrup leathers are the longest. i have 60" stirrup leathers, i'm 5ft7 and a half (very important half ;):p) with a 32/33" inside leg (or thats the jean length i get ;)) i ride in a dressage saddle with long stirrups for my height and was riding on hole 9 (out of 12) but they've stretched a bit so i am now on hole 10... so 60" should be long enough for you :p but would probably be much too long for your shorter friends. you can put a twist in or go for 56" stirrup leathers, its ok if you are on the longest hole as long as its comfortable ;)

Do you know what make and length the old leathers are? If they fit everyone can you get the same again, or at least measure them to see what length works?

Or would it be over the top to get 2 sets of leathers and stirrups - one for the shorties and one for you and the owner?

i have wintec slimline sitrrups which i've had for around 3 years, which havn't stretched a bit...... they only cost me £20ish and they're synthetic leather looks ones so no one cleaning!!:D they are a 54 and i'm 5ft 4, they are on the 7th hold out of 15, so i would have said if you got the bigger size which is a 62, they should fit both i think......

Thanks for all the help everyone. Who knew buying stirrup leathers was such a minefield?

I saw the Wintec slimlines online, they do look quite nice. Or suppose we could always push the boat out and buy two separate sets!

No idea what make the old ones are, unfortunately. Think I will take one home tonight and then take it with me to go and look in person, rather than online. Everywhere's such a blimmin trek from central Edinburgh though!
