my pony akila has been jumping for a while now so i took her out to a Show hunter pratice day yesterday, and she was a right pig!
She just refused to move!!! It was only a 70cm class, her first outing, but she flyes over the jumps at home, with hardley any refusals, we got over the first jump after only 1 refusal, but the second (a trebel line) she refused twice so I decided to retire from that. She does this typre of thing when we go out, she did it when I took her to a private lesson too. It's really frustrating!!!
I've been advise to get spurs, but anyother tios would be very useful as were going to the same thing this weekend. Its not as if shes scared or anything just pushing her boundries! and I'm starting to find it difficult to push back (*sighs* after the 2hrs it took to get her onto the float, with her rearing AT me!)
Thanks

how long has she been jumping for? i get the impression she cant handel the pressure of being around all the other horses and jumping 70cms classes, perhaps if you took her to a show without jumping her just walk her maybe if shes comfortable trot and canter around the show grounds so she can deal with one thing at a time then start jumping her in small classes like 60cms! i think you need to listen to her..her rearing is a reaction to the pressure and unease she feels she isnt being a pig she doesnt think like that..shes jus scared! hope this helps if you have any question please ask me!! :):):) good luck!

don't get spurs, is the first thing here, that's not how to solve this.

take her to a small show, and get there nice and early and warm her up and work her in really well until she feels totally relaxed.

do a TINY class (70cm is big for a first time out), maybe 55/60cm and stay relaxed and happy yourself, think about gaining the experience and having a good time rather than winning (not saying that's what you were doing) :)

i was just going to ride her round there, but she was being really well behaved at first, so my friends riding instructor told me to do the next class. I think the intil excitment wore off and she was testing me. its quite hard to explain. she use to be wild and has always tested me, but this time she had control. she wasn't rearing with me on her, that was when we were trying to load her. she usually loads perfectly fine, but shes trying to regain the control she had when i first got her.
I no it sounds like she was scared, but she truley wasnt, i was watching for that. were going to the same show thing this weekend, but now we know the trick to getting her onto the float well be able to get there on time and go in the baby classes.
o and its a training day so wasnt many people there, i dont care about placing, just getting her round the course. xD
thanks heaps, sorry i couldnt explain it very well.;)
