Horse friendly beaches around Bournemouth

You can ride on Studland at certain times of year (not at all high summer and times are limited at other times of year, but is pretty much all day in winter) You have to apply in advance for a permit, only 5 are issued per day and its around £10. Here's the link http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/mai...achandnaturereserve/w-studland-facilities.htm

You can download the app form but its easiest to phone them and get 'pencilled in' on the date you want.

Other than that havent found any yet. Have made enquiries about Avon Beach at Highcliff but didnt get very far. Would be interested to hear if there are any.

Am going to Norfolk next month to do some beach riding on a course run by FTH - bit of a trek though!

I have always always wanted to ride along from Sandbanks right through Bournemouth and round to Hengistbury Head, jumping the groynes en-route. Can't see if ever happeneing but it would be LOADS of fun!

Perhaps we should do it???? Get hubby to drop us off one end and pick us up at Hengistbury Head? We'd be been and gone by the time anyone caught up with us? What do you think???? :bounce:

Oooooh sounds like fun!

I've NEVER taken Roxy out on a beach, let alone jumped her, but what the heck - I'm sure it would be a scream! :giggle:

I'm fairly certain you can take them to Highcliffe beach, as long as you stick to the part that is under the castle, as hubby took his horse there several times and no one questioned him. I plan on taking my own to the beach during the winter some time, and was looking to go there as it's the closest.

Did you park at Mudeford/Avon beach? Think this could be feasible in the winter? I dont really know the area very well - I can find the quay and Highcliffe castle but not even sure I know how to get into Avon beach car park!!! (can always find it on the sat nav) Where would be the best place to park? I really want to go now!

We took the horses to sandbanks but it was years and years ago.
I know it was not allowed during the summer/tourist season and I think there were hour restrictions too (I think we could only go between certain times).
Had uncle come along to clean up all horsey whoopsies

Sorry forgot about this thread :o

When I double checked with him, he said that he parked at Steamer Point, the one closes to a life guard station or some sort of scientific station closest to the castle. But when he did it the first time it was when the foot and mouth was on and you couldn't hack out on the forest. However now you can't take a trailer or box in there any more as Christchurch coucil have put up those bars that restrict the height of vehicles going in on nearly all of their car parks in the area close to the beach. So he did think that parking would be a problem unless you were to park on a road somewhere. He did ride to the beach once from Bashley ! Taking his horse along the main roads and cutting through Highcliffe high street :giggle: Horse didn't give a hoot about anything except the bus stops were a bit potentially horse eating.

Under the castle you can take dogs there all year round as I take mine there, your just restricted with dogs to the right of the car park underneath the beach huts. He stuck to beach that was dog friendly all year round.

Might take a cruise past later today and check it out

Had a hunt on the Dorset4you website and found this Horses on Beaches Christchurch and the relevant byelaws Byelaw info - so going on that, after 30th September there is nothing stopping you taking your horse to the beach - only problem would be parking :(

I had to go to Christchurch this afternoon so had a look, only place that didn't have a height restriction of 2m was Avon Beach parking, as there were a few campervans in there. Or I did see technically speaking that you could park on the road above Avon Run Car park in the cul de sac in front of someone's house. But I dont think whoever did that would be popular :ninja:
