Do all horses get a bit frisky with that "Yayyyy, Springs coming - I'm happy to be alive" feelin this time of year?

Our RS horses seem to have a big big spring in their step at the moment -
even the normal ploddy ones are merrily cantering around without too much asking.

I know like most they have a rough turn out in the winter - the field they are on is just owner hay provision as there is little or no grass - but come May they will transfer to summer grazing paddocks.

But it seems right now that the minute they go over the fields - the Press Green for Go button comes on!!!!

- Hee Hee - be great if the Ploddy ones were like this all year round!:) :) - its just enough buzz for a Mrs Wobble Knees like me:D

Yes!

Sam's in a different field at the moment, went to get him in, YO had to get crazy 17hh TB in control halter, end of story 17hh TB in control halter plodded out of field, lovely 19 year old warmblood trotted out of field sideways...

But I forgave him as he looked very pretty doing it!:D

Definitely yes. My (fairly) sedated and sensible mare has turned into a hot-headed spooky madam (no, NOT in season). Turned her out and she proceeds to bronk up and down the field for a good few minutes - just glad no-one was on board. She does this every spring, she'll settle in a few weeks, and just needs calm but firm handling. I tend to watch her diet a bit more, there's a lot of sugar in the spring grass right now so I've cut right back on any extra in her feed.
It's times like these that I give thanks for all the ground work that we've done!

:) :) :) Thanks for the reassurance that things will settle down again folks - looks like I might be developing my "deep seat" (or not!!) over the next few weeks then until Spring Fever passess:) :)

Yes, think its spring fever, tho my two haven't had any turnout properly for 3 months - so I can probably pin a lot of their happiness and speed down to that! Joe thinks its Christmas, never seen him sooooo happy - Storm spends her days snorting with pleasure too - its lovely to watch them both.

Now this will make you giggle -

I never made the connection but I let my two house bunnies out for a scamp around the garden last night, first time during the week as the nights are getting lighter

- and they were leaping about, chasing each other and racing around at manic speed - errrrrrrrrr horses in disguise me thinks:D :D :D :D

I think your right - its all the animals - not just needies:) :) :)

Oh, yes, Spring fever is in full motion now!!! :D Yesterday my mom was washing the windows and the ponies were running up and down the field... heels up in the air, snorting like there was some terrible monster after them...

I tried to bring them in and they ran all over the place, in and out of their stalls, like a bunch of fillies!!!

Anyways, I think it's time to leave them outside 24/7... Spring is in the air!!! :D

Eventually managed to catch my loon this sunday, then he decided to take off and bolt away, giving me lovely rope burn and then a heart attach as lead rope wound round his leg, eveutally caught him to remove rope then YO had to come out and catch him for me...

Whilst we were in school ALL the horses decided that they would gallop up and down the fields whilst I was in school, lucklily Sam had over heard me threatening him with glue factory and was very well behaved!

When does the spring feeling end?

I havent ridden xena since last wednesday. So hopefully her owner rode her on sunday other wise i will be in for a fresh ride later lol

The last time she wasnt ridden for a week she was very stupid, spooky, nappy, bucky and did a little rear!

I will find out what mood she is in later though :)

Red's been fine :o

But then again, even his version of his spring fever will probably be a crazy horses's sane mood :D

I think all the horses are longing for space and grass - ours arent out yet but soon should be. Counted four different kinds of bird in our garden last week as well. Spring officially sprung.
