For my 18th birthday my friends are giving me money to go towards a tattoo and coming with me to get it done.

I want a horse related one. More specifically a Forest related one.

I was thinking of getting a picture of his head and then his name written in chinese letters next to it. As chinese letters are written and read downwards.
But if I got this I would have to go back twice, once for the outline and then again for the colour as they won't do it all in one session.

So I was thinking about jsut getting his name written down my upper arm in chinese letters and then another one on my hip (The chinese symbol for love)

What do people prefer?
The other option is Forests name written in chinese letters down the inside of my lower arm? :p

Here's mine...

hmmm i don't always trust the whole chinese symbol thing...i'm assuming you've heard the whole someone getting a symbol tattooed on their wrist/leg/arm etc and it meaning a dirty word, not what they were originally told etc. I think if your sure about what you are getting then go for it, no-one else can tell you what to get and remember its with you for life...oh and you'll get completely addicted so maybe getting his name or something now but in a few years i'm sure you'll have a pic of him too lol. I'll take a photo of mine (its a carousel horse and i also have stars down my neck) and post it at some point when i can get my camera to work!!!!

I have two tats (non horsey) on my back. One on my shoulder and a phoenix that diagonally covers from right shoulder to mid-lower left side of back and a little on my ribs.. A tattoo is something very personal and definitely make sure it's what you want before you get it!!!!! I think the one with his head and his name would be nice, just make sure to get a good tattoo artist or it'll look funny.

One thing I can tell you, however, is that the inside of your fore arm is gonna HURT!
The one on my shoulder didn't hurt much at all, but when he started on the Phoenix right over my spine I actually got a little nauseous, lol, especially the color. And anything that has to be filled in, no matter what color, is going to hurt worse because they use a gun that has up to 4 needles going at once to cover more space quickly.

Ooooh have you checked-out Karsteines album on here- she's got some gorgeous illustrations of horses that she's draw herself and she supplies a tattooist.(Hope she don't mind me plugging here!)

In all honesty, the two on my back didn't really hurt hugely - it's more like a very irritating scratching than anything else!

agree - its like being scratched by a cat - not sore just a little stingy but then everyone has a different pain thresh-hold

i like the idea of forests name written in chinese letter down the indie of your arm:D

I like this idea only not in Chinese. I would much prefer a tattoo in Arabic or in Khmer script or similiar. I have 4 tattoos, lower back, back of my neck, inside wrist and lower left leg - the one on my lower back hurt the most. My next one is going to be down the inside of my arm and will be Khmer script saying "Family". I have given up trying to find a nice horsey tattoo to get as I cannot find one that I like:o

mine!!!

ok everytime i post them they are huge!!! even though i've resized them... stupid photobucket

I have one on the inside of my wrist/forearm and it didnt hurt at all! Just felt like a scratch. :)

I agree about the Chinese symbols, be careful what you're getting! Could be very embarrassing if you ended up with something permanently written on your body which you'd rather wasnt! :D

I have 2, although no pics.

I have a blue pegasus on my arm and a red rearing pegasus on my stomach.

This is my horsey tattoo, I like more discreet type tattoos but everyone has different tastes

I also have one other non horsey tattoo on my lower back

Oww. Tatoos sound a look painful. Don't they go all scabby after you have it done? Urm. Well every man for himself. I think it would be quite interesting if you had the Chinese letters in the shape of a horse......if that would work?

wow tarkia i like them and i don't usually like the kind of tribal, blocky type tattoos (perhaps its cause they are horses?!? i also want a pheonix tattoo), think they look fab, such amazing designs, wish i could just come up with something like that! I think my next one will be designed by me, i'm quite arty but i'm struggling for ideas as something too complex shading wise is difficult and may not quite turn out like you want...hmmm its still a work in progress!!!

Oh and Barrel yes they do scab over after you get them done again like a scratch but very important you DO NOT PICK THEM (trust me it gets tempting to pick and sometimes a bit itchy which doesn't help). It only lasts for a week or so.

im a trainee tattoist, i suggest you design your own and it doesnt have to be over 2 sittings, depends on the size of it

as for needles, a 4 needle  im confused, i use a 5 needle round liner for most out lines and anything up to a 25 mag with is needles stacked for colouring and shading,

you will find the out line stings a bit like sun burn and the shading is less painful, differant parts of the body hurt more than others,

im covered from the neck down to my feet :o it is addictive ;)

theres a large amount of tattoo design sites, well worth a look :)

good luck :)
