Do any of you have one of those huge horse balls..?

I've just bought one an am having real trouble getting it inflated...

It just has a small hole for inflation and then you put this long thin plastic peg thing in as a stopper.

The instructions say use an air compressor to inflate, but the only ones i know of are used to inflate tyres and they have an adapter on the end which fits straight onto the tyre...! They don't in anyway fit the hole of the ball... :(

If any of you have one of these balls, how did you inflate yours? Also if you inflated it at home, did you manage to get it in your car to transport it to the yard..?

Fully inflated it will be nearly 4 foot heigh......!

Any help apreciated..!

I have an adapter that fits on my foot pump - it came with it. Very often footballs have the same adapter - Im sure you could pick one up for a few pence in a sports shop. Also we have a blow up guest mattress that has a similar adapter that Im sure would work - think about what inflatable stuff you have and go see what you can find!

I too used a gym ball but it popped after a couple of weeks :-)

I've got a gym ball at home as well but was advised not to use this as they are not really strong enough and as they are smaller they can get stuck between the horses legs...

This ball i've bought will inflate to nearly 4 ft ......:D

This picture below is from the website i bought it from (horse toys for training) and is what it will look like if i ever get it inflated.....!

Below is a link to a really good video from u tube of a Frisian stallion playing with one.

I hope my boy like sit as much as the Frisian stallion does... Somehow i doubt it very much :( he is probably going to be petrified of it....! That's if i ever manage to get it inflated.....

I can see why one would think they're not strong enough, but the stuck between the horses legs is bs.

Mine popped because the gelding would pin it between his front legs, lay on it and bite it. He'd also kick it, pinch it between his teeth and throw it over the fence. I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

I don't know if they'd survive a horse sitting on them, Kermit wasn't inclined to do much with it so I gave up after awile.

problems inflating

Hi had one for years. I'm lucky my husband has a machine an air compressor
But what you can is take it to a garage and inflate it for 20p! if you have a friend with a truck to get you back to the yard Bingo you are sorted. If not infalt at a garge to a size to get in the car then finish it off by using a machine that plugs into a car lighter, and inflate it to it max around 4Ft 10ins it is so important to get them as big as possible, the Police use them and their horses are always over 16 hands.
Good luck try and find a friend with air compressor or see if you can buy one on ebay? BQ had them for £29.00 they are great for other things too. However if you have one you can let your ball down and just inflate when require it will take about 5 -8mins hope this helps.

I've got the same ball as you :) It is big..I'm only 5ft 1 lol. I inflated mine at the yard with a mains electric pump (bought from argos for camping for about £12) It has three interchangeable nozzles, one of which is long and thin so I used that in the hole in the ball. Same as a football attatchment I think?

Anyway will say it took absolutely ages to inflate ....about 20 mins? It could still do with a little more in it.

Hope that helps anyway :-)

Haven't read all replies, so sorry if I repeat...

I reckon the canvas cover I got(inc. ball, from Imagine A Horse) is a necessity. While it's still not completely prickle-proof, it's pretty strong, unlike the regular exercise balls, even ones designed for horse play that my horse quickly destroyed prior.

Regarding inflating, yes, bit of a drama, esp as it takes so long & the first one I had kept going down. I have an el-cheapo air compressor & I got the necessary adaptors from the $2 shop, for about $1. It takes around half an hour to inflate, then you have to be quick about pulling out the nozzle & sticking the plug in before it loses too much air. I found that it also looked like I was over inflating the ball & if it weren't for a lable that said something like "You HAVE got the right size ball for the cover. It is safe to inflate it that much." I wouldn't have been game!:D

Fun, first & foremost!:D:p You can teach your horse to push it, to 'play soccer' or 'fetch'. I find these sorts of games are not only fun but are helpful in teaching the horse with positive methods, teaching them to think & work things out. Also good for training our training attitude.... because it's hard to get all stressy & serious when you're playing with these sorts of 'tools' & doing 'tricks'!:p:D

But they're also great for desensitisation, rolling & bouncing them around or on the horse, precision type exercises, teaching the horse to approach things when we ask.... your imagination's the main hurdle in what you can do/teach with stuff like this.;)

It survived three years of commuting and dual use before I threw it out - it became egg shaped. Got a new one and left it out in the pasture full time - it lasted four months until his pasture mate popped it. :D

What kind of gym balls are you using that last so well with a horse??? My first 2 lasted a day a piece before I went & bought one designed for horses - but if it weren't for the canvas cover, I don't think that would be any stronger. The first one popped when my horse trod on it, the second just went down when I sat on it at the end of the session - don't know how it got damaged, but think it was when he bit it!
