So without a saddle using a mounting block/ wall.

Do you face your horse's head and jump swinging the leg
Do you face your horse's middle and jump on partway then swing
Do you face the tail and jump up and swing round.

Or something else? Falling off is permitted 😆

I ask because if she's not near enough because she's trying to leave room for where the stirrup would hang. I can end up sort of launching myself on and certainly acting like a predator. I try to swing, sit up and she's off already.

I am trying to be a little more tidy and it being a less messy scramble.
Initially I am facing the middle, jump up and end up half over then try and swing. I need to get fitter I think.

I have toyed with the idea of trying Fuzzy minus saddle, she'd be lots easier to scrabble up onto than Zi or Storm !

When I got on Storm bareback in the past I had a leg up by mr trews. Not sure it would be possible for me otherwise - she'd probably walk off!

My fields are full of huge hills. Horrible to walk up, but make life very easy when you want to hop on bareback.

I tend to opt for "Do you face your horse's middle and jump on partway then swing" method - it is undignified but usually works.

Small addendum - I don't ride now but when I did, that is what I did usually giggling and with a head-collar only and one rope and a huge prayer.

I haven’t ridden Monkey bareback, I don’t think he’d mind but he’s too sharp.

With Jess I would normally face her middle, put my right leg half over and hop on. I tried hop up belly over then swing my leg round, but found my pad slipped every time. I’ve never been able to fling my legs up and over from standing.

Last time I managed to fold the pad underneath me. She wasn't thrilled about me fiddling and trying to pull it out again.
I haven't thought of putting my leg half over and then doing the leap of faith. That could be next to try.

I climbed on the fence in the place where the mounting block would be, steadied myself holding the horse, then stood on the top rail of the fence and swung my right leg over the horse . RI gave most students a leg up but I couldnt manage that.

Popped out for a ride and was able to have a play with how I got on.
I have a new mounting block and standing on the top step put me level with her back and I was just able to put my right over while still standing on it.
Perfect.

Later on I tried facing the tail off something lower and was able to swing my leg round and was able to get on with the scramble.

I also found a gate to use that we haven't used before. So basically the session seemed to be simply working on getting on.
