How Long Do The Effects Of Bute Last?

Saturday we took my slightly creaky old girls out for a trip in the lorry and did quite a bit of roadwork, so they both got a precautionary Danilon in their dinner buckets on Saturday evening.

Sunday afternoon I had a lesson on Tess. She hasn't been quite right in the last couple I've had, tense and reluctant to soften, which just isn't her, so I've put a call into the back lady, upped her turmeric and swapped into the treeless saddle. She was straight back to her best yesterday, soft, light and willing, I was delighted and my instructor was impressed

I know time will tell on this one anyway but I wondered if it's possible the Danilon might have been part of the improvement? She's a 470kg thoroughbred.

Usually 12 hours Yann, It could be part of the improvement for certain even if wearing off it could free her up:biggrin:

2 days according to my vet (up to 48hrs) and in Ellie's case i would definitely say there is still residual effect up to 36hrs later

Not sure about how long the actual effect would last, but I think, in some horses,it can still show up in a blood test up to 10 days'ish after it was last administered.

My thinking would be if it still shows in the blood stream then it is thereby still in the horse's system so might still be having some residual effect?:unsure:

Vet told us to take Joe off the danilon 3 days before her visit to get an accurate picture and to get it out of his system.
