I have a sec D mare who isn't really in work at the moment an only has to smell grass and she puts on weight. She's on noo hard feed just grass and occasional hay, this is all she's had all winter. I've put her in a light weight rug to now but she's still no where near the weight I would be happy with an I know I really need to put a muzzle on her but I am just really worried. She lives out 24/7 and although checked every day I work long hours and sometimes this is often 7am and 7pm! An although there is usually people around it could be hours with out her actually being "checked". I am completely obsessly paranoid about them wearing anything that could get caught, head collars etc and I am just so worried about leaving her with a muzzle on all day its making me fee sick worrying about it!! I know its silly but would just like some assurance that they are safe.....?? Thanks

My Welshie is out in hers from 7-7 or thereabouts (although in at night atm), mine is the shires type and I think it is as safe as can be - but then not much in our field to cause harm.

It's just a case of weighing up risk, there is a small chance the muzzle could do harm, but there's a very great chance that being fat will lead to lami. So no contest on my book ;)

Thank you for your reply! I totally agree I just cant help but still worry!:o

Just wanted to hear other views really, check that other people thought it would be ok for her to wear one, with this sort of routine. I've never had any experience of muzzles etc, every other VERY good doer like her that I've owned have always been in hard work when I've had them so never been a problem. But I just havent got that option with her at the moment.

Thanks:)

my aerborn one broke as i thought however when it was sent back to them they said it was fieldsafe thats why that had happened, it was the adjuster on the side that broke so it made it super big so it slipped over mac's head.

it now has vetwrap on it to stop it sliding as he had only wore it once when it happened
