but to ride in public is it compulsory to pass riding and road safety test. I know it makes sense to do, but i don't know that much about horses and i'm trying to learn as much as possible before i start riding.

No it isn't, although, as you say, it is a good idea.

If you want to take your BHS Stage 2 exam though, you must have the certificate

thanks thats reassured me a lot. I am determined to go for a hack with my friend so now i don't need to worry so much about being able to pass
As i said i'm new to this much detail of horses and my school said that the average to get me jumping is about 10 weeks. :S (in a way i'm looking foward to it)
