In agony

Just another vote for stretching before riding. It helps me move better with the horse and helps me prep mentally. Not sure if it helps with soreness but since riding is an athletic activity stretching first makes sent to me. When I dismount I lead my pony around for a couple of minutes until I get my walking legs back.

That being said, you probably would have been sore your first time no matter what you did. You accomplished a lot your first time out. Welcome to NR and the wonderful world of horses in general. We look forward to hearing about your further adventures:).

As a relatively new rider myself I'd also add my +1 to a bit of stretching beforehand if you can.
I've started Pilates as well to help with my posture and general stretchiness too

I had the same thing, You are just sore. Next time stretch before and after in your legs and back so it minimizes the amount of soreness you have. Stretch as much as you can now in your legs it can shorten and help the pain.
Stay strong

Not wishing to be contrary to @Skib but IMO aches and pains are normal if your new to riding or same for us if we return from holiday or a forced break. It will get easier. You're just using muscles that you don't normally need in your day to day life.
Well done you for trotting on your 1st lesson:cool:
yeah, I went trotting on my first lesson. I even started learning the diagonals. And like 10 lessons later I'm Cantering Lol.
