Information on Hackneys

Hi, I'm thinking about buying a hackney gelding but after reading up on the breed it dosn't give them a very good write up in terms of characteristics.

Does anyone have any knowledge on the breed and are there any exceptions for being suitable for a novice ride as I want something for all of the family, may even get hubby up there one day!

They are not, IME a good breed to look at for a novice, in general. The ones I have driven have been of very high mettle and very sharp and forward going. It'd be like giving a Ferari to a teenager and letting them lose

There will always be exceptions in every breed. They are very clever and will act upon your tiniest of cues, whether or not you knew you were giving them out. For a good rider or driver they are great fun...if you can cope with clever and quick and willing.
