Not Cracker thank goodness, but the saintlly Teddy, TB ex racehorse. I went with another livery to get him and his field mate in, and he was down in the field. At first we thought he was snoozing in the sun, but sadly not.

He was down because he had injured his right hind just above his hock and it had de-gloved down over the joint. There was a 3'' strip of skin at the back holding it up a bit. :frown: :poop:

Poor Teddy, he managed to get on his feet, and I called vet, other livery called YO who was already on her way. We got him in slowly, he walked really well considering, he seems to have normal movement in the joint. Put him in his stable and YO cleaned and dressed it while I held his head.

Love his heart, he stood good as gold while this was done, only flinching slightly when she sluiced it with a syringe.

They were waiting for the vet when I left, fingers crossed for him, its a bad place to stitch. Hope he pulls through, he is the steadiest most loving horse you could wish to meet.

No idea as yet how it happened, all fences seem to be in order, his rug was in place as was his field mates. She was fine. It looks like a slice, almost like a cut, and I'd think electric fencing tape tangle and panic scenario, but it was all there and still up.

Having a strong cup of tea now.

Awk poor man. Thank god you found him and helped him :frown:

I hate it when it happens and you dont know how

Hope he is ok xx

Awwe poor boy, hope hes ok. What a well behaved patient he was - Could of been very tricky to clean at the rear of a narky patient!!

Could it of been a kick of a shod horse if its been sliced maybe?

Vet has been and stiched him up, he will be out of action for at least three months, but long term prognosis is good. He may not be completely sound for a lot longer though, and of course infection is a big risk.

But so far so good, he is munching his hay and looking a lot happier. Luckily being an ex-race horse he is no stranger to being in.

It was awful, it was like one of those illustrations of the inside of legs, I could see those big tendons and all the bits, but for real. Poor boy, he was so brave and trusting.
